      You mean these eyes ?

Yep, there's evil in those eyes and it's not in the the passport photo
of the circa 1950's Argentinian cop.

This lame mockery of historical and preservation show is totally reprehensible and painful to watch.

          Just my two cents.

            Killer Bee

KB refers to the inability of media not to check out people, only yesterday I was talking to my elder brother who covers the media interviews for the company he works for, simply put no checks are done.Recently a radio host referred to Mark my brother as an expert he intervened on air and said "no I am not". Gottlieb has more front than Brighton and these muppets believe him...staggering !!!!!

I watched the video, this is shamefull,it's not the way to deal with fallen heroes. And if this series (hope not) is put on TV it will discredit the collector community once more.I already have so much trouble explaining why I collect militaria (especially German),now everyone who would see the series will think I'm sort of a grave robber.

The thing that surprises me is that people are surprised at this behavior coming from Gottlieb.

This guy is obviously a sociopath, how else could an untrustworthy, ugly, stupid, petty little man have delusions of grandeur?

The fact that he is digging graves just confirms this further.

I'm stunned beyond belief. The complete lack of technique, accuracy or respect given to the remains shown in that clip. The woeful lack of basic anatomy knowledge - how on earth does "an expert" not know the difference between an arm and a leg?

Not only does it appear that if there was any official supervision to this excavation they were on a tea break at the time it was filmed. But if this is what might be in store then I am afraid it does nothing but harm.

I hope it never makes broadcast.

                      Shameful.

God forbid should he go forth and dig at Auschwitz.
Ooops - that's sacred ground. But the crying and tears would make National Geographic front page news.

Calling one of their shows "Nazi war diggers" is a disgrace, and using people like CG in it is even more so. These three people clearly have no idea what they are doing. The way the scene is filmed, and the tears, are sickening to see, as they are clearly artificial.

I would like to clarify something however. There is no requirment to be an archeologist to exhume WWII era bodies, just like there is no requirement to be an archaeologist or doctor to work as a grave digger in a cemetery, or to work in a funeral home. Thousands of WWI and WWII bodies are regularly exhumed in a similar manner all over Europe by offical organisations such as the Volksbund, etc. If the bones are turned over to a cemetery, and any items usefull for identification are passed on to the authorities, then what they are doing is acceptable, and is not grave robing.
While it would be nice to perform a full forensic/archeological investigation for all bodies found, there is no scientific reason to do so, nor any funding, nor for that matter any interest from the vast majority of archaeologists and forensic workers.
Many archeologists or history enthusiats in the UK, US, or living far from the battle areas, dont realise that in many parts of Europe the ground is full of thousands of bodies, and they can not all be exhumed in textbook maner.
When I was living in Croatia, I can tell you that the discovery of WWII bones was in general considered as a major pain in the arse by those who had to deal with them, and no archeologists were fighting to be able to participate in the exhumations. When I found WWII bodies in France, not a single local archeologist, forensic wrker, or even historian, contacted me to find out about what had been found.

What they are doing in this clip is ammateurish, but acceptable, as they are contributing to find a missing soldier. However, showing them on National Geographic as if they are an example to follow, and adding in all the acting and BS is disgracefull.

                          JL
I agree with you Jean-Loup. Sadly it appears that sensationalist, mock tears are somehow seen as grabbing audiences - which if it were to get aired it surely would. But from what has been shown there is nothing very positive to say about this series.

                          Best Wishes,
                          Simon

A fully agreed and sensitively executed dig was made of the site of the Treblinka death camp recently.

                              http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-16657363

A documentary that was produced at the time was both sensitively made, being both respectful and compassionate to the subject of human remains from a ghastly moment of history being uncovered. Due to the totality of the destruction of evidence at the end of the war the few fragmentary remains recovered were reburied under the guidance of Jewish observers.

One can only hope the same was true of the soldier found in the clip above.
