I think that all this bad mouthing of Carl Gottlieb is being overdone. I, also, bet that not many of the "bad mouthers" have had any bad dealings with Carl Gottlieb, if any at all.

Let's see some proof that he intentially sold a fake item as real. I follow his auctions and he seems like a straight up guy. Certainly, a few mistakes must have been made, through time, but he will stand behind every thing he sells.

I also believe that some of these "fakes" are actually good, but might have been made by an obscure supplier towards war's end.

Even that British Intellegence made, Hitler passport must have some real value as a historic artifact.

Everybody who thinks that a passport, issued in Vienna in 1942 (!!!!) to the Führer and Reichskanzler Adolf Hitler would give the profession as "Maler" (painter) was made by British Intelligence needs to take some serious history lessons (and some German language lessons also).
That passport fake is even worse than the Mengel one!

Has anyone contacted the major news source/ sources that reported this "find" and conveyed the opinions of so may here? If in fact the documents are fake, I would think the same reporters would be as interested in a major hoax.

Fake or not Gottleib will win in the end, even if the passport is fake, the free publicity he has reaped will surely pay off handsomely. Love him or hate him, he sure gets airtime...

I for one cannot understand why CG would not want to put the documents out here for all the examine. If real, what better recommendation could you have than this source?

I honestly don't think, experts here who aren't big fans of CG would label them fake, falsely.

Seeming as craig is a partial owner of waf he ain't going anywhere and I wouldn't be surprised if this thread does just disappear just remember all the other ones that were locked about him and of others slowly I think this forum is being run by dealers for collectors not collectors for collectors

Note the following image, taken directly from the San Diego newspaper's website. Undoubtedly, Mr. Gottlieb was present when the documents were carefully laid out in preparation for photographing before his television appearance:



Looks pretty impressive. Very appealing visually. Nice background. Until you look more closely...

The ARGENTINE police document at center, directly above the passport, bears the same photograph as does the passport issued years earlier...in ITALY! So now we have THREE appearances of the same photo: once on Mr. Gottlieb's 1947 Italy-issued passport, on a a second document issued issued at least several years later in Argentina, and an image appearing on Wikipedia and captioned as having been taken by Argentina police in 1953 or so. Could he have saved a few passport photos from the creation of the Italian passport for use years later on the police document? I doubt it - he would have been photographed directly by the police...probably with that number board before him. A number board certainly isn't used in passport photos.

How could Mr. Gottlieb have missed such an obviously blatant forgery staring him in the face? Why is this piece not exposed to public scrutiny? Why has he not made any retraction, or even a cogent statement? Why is his "team of experts" so inept as to not have come to what is now an obvious conclusion?

Is he preparing his next television special: "To Catch a Forger - Craig Gottlieb's One Man Search to Uncover the Truth Behind Mengele's Passport"?
