It speaks volumes ... volumes of me repeating myself that I am NOT conducting play-by-play analysis here for the voyeuristic pleasures of some, the cyber-bullying pursuits of others. I will lay out the findings of an impressive team of researchers, when I am done. For those convinced of their own importance and entitlement, I am sorry to disappoint.

Even if you had film of the Angel Gabriel descending from the heavens and proclaiming your passport "authentic" (or whatever), I for one will never believe another thing you say.

What I do find astounding... in a show as big as the Max... how did the faker land up with Gottlieb?. I begin to think the people who DO know their documents like Kay Brüggemann turned it down with a "no thank you..." and a wave...

Either that, or the faker knew where to go... and where not to go...

What is also interesting... at shows you often see dealers showing each other their best goodies they have just bought ... mere mortals being excluded...

I am guessing CG showed a few as well.... why on earth did they not warn him?? did they WANT to see him drive into a wall?

Hi Bill. I would say at you have every right to want to correct the public record given you are quoted in the original newspaper article. As such I believe your reputation has a wee bit of risk through collateral damage if this story implodes. If I was you I would be doing everything I could to get the public record corrected. I know you didn't give it the Good Housekeeping seal of approval in the original article but the reporter seemed to spin it that you were supporting. Just my 2 cents.

Gottlieb has a rep for trying to sell bent items; just search on WAF (Birdshead daggers. Honour ring, Himmler school book and many more) and now this?

Makes you wonder how many "self authenticating" items he has sold that are now sitting in WAF member (and others) collections.

He is obviously a magnet for "bad" high end items; he attracts the fakes like no other dealer, the "vets" and others with their "world class items" (big time crapola) only seem to go to Craig (or Craig has "found" them) no one else gets offered these "goodies" they only land on his table.

Is there any chance someone here have a clear picture of the Red Cross paperwork issued to Helmut Gregor?
If yes, you need to check his nationality; I strongly suspect he was described as a volksdeutsche from South-Tyrol and as a Staatloos.
If that is the case, as far as I know, a Staatloos person couldn't be issued any passport, this is why he was given the Red Cross ID in order to move oversea.

Disaplaced Persons or 'D.P.s' here in the UK arrived on Red Cross documents ... our neighbour was a Latvian DP, (he was billeted in a former POW camp near Stoney Middleton/Calver and met and eventually married a local English girl) and along with his fellow countrymen if they wanted to travel abroad had to apply for a British passport and undergo investigation. Of the 2 Latvians who settled in the village (both adopting the name 'Johnny') our neighbour never did ... his family name was Bekeris.
