Does anyone know the name of an Argentinean who sells autograph material - and who may have been present at the MAX Show? Perhaps contact info as well? I believe his initials to be "H.G."

It is entirely possible he was offering other Mengele items or TR material emanating from South America, perhaps other post-war war criminal documents, Graf Spee documents, and the like.

If you were present at the show and saw this gentleman, kindly advise.

    Bill

The "Himmler school book" thread remains visible on this website:

Off topic but I contacted at the time the supplier/printer of these '12 they were still in business. I forget the reply I got dumped all the details and moved on.

I plan to offer some nice WWII items on Craig Gottlieb's auction site, this spring. If anyone can offer concrete proof that Craig is not honest, I would like to hear of it.

I wish that the membership would concentrate their energy on the actual "fake" makers ? They, surely, need exposed !

          Hello Mike,

I suggest you read this whole thread, I would also advise to pay special attention to the Wikipedia part.

          Regards,

There are fake makers and there are those that sell the fake maker's fakes.

You take the time to post this, but not the time to read the entire thread and the mountain of evidence that suggests somethings "fishy"

Please tell me why exposing fraud on any level is not important?

              Let the chips fall.

This thread now has has over 21,000 "hits" in less than ten days. Web sites don't make money from content, they make money from "hits".

Here are the Alexa.com analyses of hits and demographics for this site. Top three nations engaged are the U.S., Germany, and...Estonia!

Over the past two years, global ranking is down 10%, and page views and time on the site are down 30%. That's bad news.

So...anyone or anything that brings in the numbers is GOOD news. They increase web stats which justifies increased advertising charges...and the value of the website.

Craig Gottlieb, Bill Panagopulos, and controversy are good for business. Just as Jesus Christ and Charles Manson drive traffic.

But the bigger question is, at what cost? Why are there fewer hits? Less time spent here? Less engagement? Is it competition...anger...disgust? A good indication would be whatever was going on in late October to December, 2013.

Beyond the main subject of this thread, what the fakers are doing now is using the unaware to "fence" items. They find someone that is most certainly not an expert but who may be convinced they are, and as such able to convince other people they are experts, to use as a vehicle to sell their wares. They can hide in the shadows while others are (gladly) in the limelight doing their dirty work for them.

There are several known dealers who purport to be experts in specialty areas like personality items and other high end collectibles and most of the items they are selling are complete garbage IMO.

IMO also they really only have minimal knowledge in most of what they are selling but often have convinced themselves they are authorities of these subjects. I have come to think rather than many of them them intentionally and knowingly selling crap they are convinced they themselves "know" what is real and others are wrong.

Many of these people have personalities that seem to lend themselves to actually starting to believe they are experts when the media and events in life seem to support them being authorities. This happens a lot in academia and if people are willing to assert themselves as experts or authorities the media will accept it without question.

The main problem here appears to be actions based on a desperate want for media attention and recognition as an authority related to probable self-esteem issues. These two things of course never establish knowledge in a subject or demonstrate authority and are illusions that some people eventually start to believe are real.

Psychology is the key in understanding these things. The want for attention is addictive and waiting for evidence etc. that an item is real is secondary to the chronic desire for attention.

Good point......... I would suggest that anyone who does business with this site would have a concern with regard to Craig Gottleib being in here. If I advertised on this forum and knew that CG's reputation tainted the air around here as much as it seems to..............I would reconsider my willingness to spend X amount of dollars to be associated with this site. In fact, I would be suggesting to the ownership that perhaps he should be removed in order to protect me and my products integrity.

This is just my personal opinion in general not directed at anyone individual after collecting for 40 years and working in academia for 20 plus years. No individuals are the focus of my writing and none shall be named for liability reasons

Just read the Himmler book thread. Thanx for the link as I missed that one.

You know, not wanting to sound like one of today’s “progressives” but I think there’s something that may be gained and applied here on the WAF from this latest thread.

Clearly, it is but the latest in the long and auspicious Gottlieb drama that his presence spawns, in perpetuity, on this forum. It’s clear that by his “Lifetime Membership” and the fact that nothing that’s uncovered relating to this person warrants anyone making him to go away, one might infer that the forum actually looks forward to further examples of spurious militaria offered by the him or, one might even extrapolate that the forum has something to gain by keeping him around.

Clearly, there’s some benefit that I’ve missed but, where someone sees ‘value’ in this person’s presence I was wondering why Charlie Snyder isn’t offered a Lifetime Membership as well? Some here may find hours a gregarious amusement in hearing Charlie espouse upon his obviously “self authenticating” personality items that fill the pages of his website or learn something beneficial from his loquacious prevarications just as we readily do when Mr. Gottlieb shares his finds with us.

We could open a new sub-section of the forum called, perhaps, ‘Swindler’s List’ affording those with a great deal of spare time on their hands a place to sit down, put their feet up and spar with the best of them over the “incredible finds” that fall from the woodwork so many times each year into the waiting arms of our best dealers. We could limit their posting privileges to this sub-section of the forum
so that only the most discerning, well heeled collectors can instantly find only the highest end militaria offered by these industry/hobby professionals rather than need to search the entire forum for their latest offerings.

I mean, it just seems unfair that Charlie (and certain others) don’t get a ‘forum’ to pitch their 'goodies' as Craig gets here. What do you guys think?

Not mine, as stories like these undermine public confidence in dealers and auctioneers. Certainly not Craig's. It's the owner of the website who wins, no matter who suffers.
