Yes NC did make some great stuff. I read that they were the ones that supplied the uniforms for the movie Glory. Was the first time that the Union and Confederate soldiers had historically accurate uniforms. Sad what happened to the company. Guess LB has gone the way of the dodo as well

I actually looked into buying New Columbia but by the time I arrived the ship had pretty well sunk, people were up in arms because they had paid for uniforms in advance, etc. I did visit his shop in Illinois while Joe was living in Vermont and the employees didn't know I was a prospective buyer so I got to see how they acted unsupervised. They sat around for well over an hour, playing with babies and having a good time. I guess it was Joe's fault ultimately but he simply trusted some untrustworthy employees who drove him into bankruptcy. DennyB

Oh yes, I remember "New Columbia", I purchased from them a Luftwaffe officer Fligerblouse in the rank of Major, I used it as an "fill in" in an original camo parka display, I don't like to put real tunics under coats or jackets for preservation issues/concerns and since only the tunic collar would be visible anyway I decided to order a nice replica for my only camo display. I was amazed on how good and detailed the work was done in the tunic itself as well as the insignias, the collar tabs and piping in particular, they where fantastics in detail and materials. I heard that their line of American Civil War uniforms where fantastic, in fact they did the uniforms in the motion picture "GLORY" and for the TV movie IRONCLADS.

Since I never ordered anything else from them didn't knew the problems that the company eventualy had, which is sad to read. It seems that the original owner passion for the business and products was lacking in his employees.

I know LB is still open as I have friends who go there weekly to buy and have items tailored.

As for boots, I dont think they're making them anymore period. It took a year to get mine.

hi David_4x4 , perhaps your friends could give Ed a bit of a kick in the arse for all the people who have placed orders and have been let down

              Ripped off too

I also personally spoke to Ed Walton when placing an order in late January,
which of course never arrived. He assured me the tunic was in stock and he was going to post it. Therefore the blame of all this is his doing; blantant theft. How long can this website be allowed to continue to operate and steal tens of thousands of dollars?

This is strange as I have known Ed Walton for years and I find it hard to believe that he would be involved in anything unethical. We used to be involved in reenacting down in Texas back in the 80s and he wanted to produce the best reproduction uniforms available.
I thought he had gotten out of the business over a year ago due to health issues but now hearing that he was answering the phone recently makes me wonder if it was really Ed or someone claiming to be Ed.

                  lost battalions bandits

                  Hi Guys

I spoke to a guy called Ray, well I ve had it with them I have waited now since middle of December last year for my jackboots, they aint never gonna arrive, dont know if its worth informing the Police in the United States of this internet fraud, because thats exactly what it is really fraud.........and it carries a very heavy sentence.

Its my guess that these guys are banking on all us customers rolling over and saying something like lets put it down to experience, well lets not, guess it needs to be raised by one of you guys in the states as Im not up on federal law.

It annoys me that so many of us collectors and re-enactors have been ripped off.

                  Regards to all

                  Nick

David, how about having your buddies tell them about this thread so they will see that they are getting some bad press? Maybe that will prompt them into fulfilling the orders or giving refunds.

it is theft of a kind , i cannot afford to just let £336 go , Ed took my money on the 18TH of February , not able to contact him by phone or e-mail , i have had no receipt for my payment , and no word as to when the stuff would be sent
i have contacted my credit card supplier , they are now going into dispute with LB , so i hope the money will go back into my card account .

i suggest anyone who payed by credit card contact them and give them all the details ( including the posts on this and any other forums ) so you can get your cash back.
if anyone can contact the authorities in the USA and alert them to lost battalions activities it would be a great help to all .

                      good luck to you all
                      cheers , kurt

My card company refunded my money as well. I contacted the BBB and filed a compliant with them. I don't know if you guys from across the pond have that option?

If your purchase was made on a credit card contact the issuer and inform them you never received goods that were paid for. You should eventually get a refund from them. Same if you used PayPal to pay for items.

I would also consider contacting the US Postal Inspector and file a complaint with them. I did this a few years ago against a deadbeat seller in California. Put the heat on these guys who don't deliver the goods. Don't let them get away with this!!

                              Ed Walton

It was most definately Ed Walton I spoke to re: my order in January.
As much as some of you guys would like to think it's someone else answering the phone, or it's these fictious new owners, sorry; Hes guilty!
And where is dear Ed. Why has he not spoke up by now?
Probably in the Bahamas by now.

Dieter, I was simply saying that this sort of behavior would certainly be out of character for the Ed Walton that I knew for probably 20 years or more. He used to sure bend over backwards to make sure the customer was satisfied. I hope everything works out okay for you.
