The german army launched its offensive against The Netherlands,
Belgium, Luxembourg and France on May 10, 1940.
Three days later they passed the border defenses of Sedan and
continued heading towards Dunkerque and Paris.
They did not attack the Ligne Maginot, in fact only the Fort
de Ferté close to Sedan was attacked.
However as of June 13, the attacks on the fortifications of the
Saarland, Rheinland-Pfalz and Montmedy area started with heavy
artillery fire.
On June 17, Bloc 4 of the Fort de Fermont was attacked by two
88mm guns. On the 21st , Bloc 1 was attacked with heavy artillery
fire. All these attacks were not successful.
With the surrender of the french army on June 25, the forts of
the Ligne Maginot surrendered too.
