    hi

I have done construction for over 20 years. I have worked in workshops building furniture for pubs and banks. These boxes are a high standard off finish and it makes it unique the different hardwoods you are using along with the french polishing to achieve the finish.

This may be a stupid comment.....but don't some timbers produce an acid that can effect medal/badges ect. I'm almost sure I was once told that the wood gives off a vapour....which I could believe. Some woods are safe to use but most dealers cases are made of aluminium. I am intending to make some of my own cases using mahogany but I won't be making them as good as yours incase it distracts the look of my medals and badges

    Thanks

    Mike

      Hi Mike,
Thanks for the comments about our cases, and yes it's true about off gassing, all living things, once dead will start to decay and gasses are part of that process and can be harmful in the long run, but only if the wood is finished poorly or not at all IMO. The cases we have are sealed with usually 4 to 5 coats of clear gloss polyurethane, it's almost like being sealed in plastic, so I'm not too concerned with "off gassing" with our cases.
I would love to see your cases when you finish them.
Thanks again for the kind words.

        hi

My cases won't impress so I won't be your competition. In the UK the standard woods on offer are pine, mahogany and oak. You have to specially order in the more exotic woods but you have to buy them as a "cube" and machine them yourself. You would have to sell a lot of cases to make it profitable. I have made items using "hand dovetail joints". People will not pay for hand craftsmanship and the mass produced items you can buy lack the quality. Thats what sets yours aside making your cases instantly recognisable and bespoke. The most "French Polish" I apply is usually three coats so you applying 4-5 coats proves you go the extra mile to produce the quality. I doubt very much you are a DIY enthusiast unless you have studied "Steve and Norm" on the New Yankee Workshop. I used to watch those guys every Friday on Sky TV when I was a 17 year old apprentice. I would say you have had some workshop training. Very few men can achieve a quality finish....thats what its all about

Another good sideline you should consider, and men on here will buy them.....Make a few jewellery boxes with that personal touch. You should try marquetry(hope i've spelt it ok!). Inlay on the lid a coat of arms, a name, cartoon character, a company logo. My friend used to make them. You can sit and do the marquetry lid of the box on your lap as you watch TV. Your boxes will take a bit of patience to make.

        Regards

        Mike

          Finally Some New Ones!!

          Hi Guy's
I know it's been a while since my last case, so here you go.
This case is unbelievable. It's Jatoba (a.k.a. Brazilian Cherry), but it's figured.
This is going to be a hot seller, this one sold before it was finished, but I have
enough for a few more cases no larger than the 17x13 size though.

Here is a regular Jatoba case

                          Dave,

This wood work is absolutely amazing. You did an excellent job with the finished product. Thanks so much for keeping me updated on the progress you were making. As the collection gets bigger you can count on me coming back for more of these works if art.

                            Hey Pablo,
Thanks and I'm glad you like it. I'll have your other two finished in about a week or so. Send me pics or post them here when you have your collection in it.
                            Thanks again friend.
