      Dave,

      Cherry wood post # 3.

To get such a fantastic finished look from the woold itself shows some fine craftsmanship too of course.

Or do you get your wood already finished so that you only have to make the display cases out of it.

Still the best display of all of them shown in this thread.

      yours friendly

        Hi Eric,
First off, thank you for the interest and compliments on our cases.
We get our lumber in rough cut 3/4 stock like this. This is walnut in it's rough state
        display cases 044.jpg

Here is kinda a brief run down of how they are made.
After it is machined and cut, the box is made, after that it gets routed along the top outside edge and inside edge. Hardware is then applied and removed. After that I start sanding it until it's pretty smooth and all the deep nicks and imperfections
are, for the most part, gone. After that the polyurethane goes on and it takes about 4 to 7 applications, depending on how the wood absorbs it, till it's smooth as glass. Then the glass top and masonite bottom are installed and finally the hardware is reapplied. This is what the case looks like after the poly, but before the glass, sitting on the finishing stand.
This is the blood wood case, my IAB's are in.

So to answer your question, I finish the wood which is very time consuming as well as the other aspects of making the case. It sure is good to see that people still notice and appreciate the quality of true hand made products.
I know you pay more for it, but I think it's worth it.
Thanks again Eric. I hope this gives you a better insight as to how we make them and finish them. It really is a second passion of mine and sometimes a challenge to make them look this way, but the outcome is a reward in itself.
        Dave

Finally I got the pics of a birds eye maple, but keep in mind it's a medium figured
piece which means it has a low "eye" count.

I just finished getting the photos of a couple more cases.
The first one is figured Birch, check out the iridescent ribbons through the end and face grain, very beautiful. Russian front medals not included nor for sale.
