Just wondering why some members feel insulted ??
Jean-Loup was kind enough to post an article annoucing a novel related to the spanish division to all members interested in that matter, as it was in french i posted a google online translation for all members here to understand what it was about....

Perhaps it should have been posted in the book/media forum, but there's no reason to believe that it was done here in order to insult people.

If some members feel that they have been insulted, they should be pissed off against the author of this book, not against other members who try to let them know about something that could be of some interest for them. Apparently that's not the case here.

Sorry , Jean Philip, the only is that this history in not true and this book are not written with the historical reality of the Spanish Blue Division.

I think that nobody are againnst you, in this time a lot of person not speke and write of the true history of the Blue Division, to me this matter is close.

Kubel, I like that you are interested in this final chapter of the spanish soldiers involvment in WWII, where to begin???? I will try to give you a breif summary of the story of these men.

Well, first of all, we start when the Spanish blue legion was recalled back to Spain in 1944. There were several men that refused to be repatried and were sacttered, others heard in veterans meetings in Spain, of how others were continuing thew fight and decided to cross the border, which was closed, and dangerous as Franco didnt want the allies to intervine in spain due to the Spanish precance in Eastern front.

So some men, that corssed were gatherd up in Lourdes France, and then trained in Sakerau I believe, form there they were split into several units. Some were sent to the south of france to fight partisans. These men actually also found themselves fighting the allies after D Day and retreating form france. Some of them also fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

Others were gatherd by Degrell to form part of his Wallon division, most of them were found in Vienna. These were incorporated in the SS given SS uinforms and a veteran claimed he wore SS uniform with spanish shield instead of belgian, but also wore the cuff title of the unit.

Another part of these men were sent to gebrigsjager units to fight in the carpathinas, most of these men were anihalted. Some of these were in the Heer others in the SS.

With all the fighting and their reduced numbers they were restructured and the ones in the SS sent to the Oder front and from there to Berlin attached to the Nordland, others stayed and fought in Austria, in Lintz to be more presize.

The ones in Berlin were the ones with Degrell and the ones of the Famous Unidad Ezquerra.

Another small contigent fought with the Kartsjager in Northern italy against partisans.

The ones in Berlin, fought hard against the soviets and were among the last defenders of the Fuhrer´s Bunker, the ones that were not killed or captured made their way to the Iberoamerican Instiute, burned their Uniforms got forged papers to appear as dsiplaced workers and got through the Rusian lines and back to Spain.

Fore more info on thses men and details I can suggest several webpages and books if you like, so you can have a better understanding of the fornts and units that they fought in.

This was a very quick summar and a littel vague, yet it ought to give a good idea

RECORDABA el sábado, en una espléndida Tercera, el comandante general don Juan Chicharro Ortega a los voluntarios de la División Azul, entre los que se contaron su propio padre y hasta tres tíos suyos, dos de los cuales perecieron en acciones de combate. Tiene razón don Juan Chicharro cuando resalta las virtudes heroicas de aquellos valientes; virtudes que, con frecuencia, llegaron más allá de lo que exigían las ordenanzas militares, hasta hacerse sobrehumanas. En los últimos meses, he leído infinidad de libros sobre la División Azul, quizá la última gran aventura acometida por el genio español; y estoy francamente conmovido por la gallardía de aquellos «guripas», que al ardor en el combate sumaban la magnanimidad hacia el enemigo, llegando a protagonizar episodios ímprobos de abnegación y sacrificio que a cualquier español bien nacido deberían llenar de orgullo.
Aquellos españoles que se alistaron en la División Azul fueron a combatir el régimen comunista soviético, al que consideraban —con razón—responsable de la situación social que había conducido a los españoles a la Guerra Civil; y responsable, sobre todo, de que esa Guerra Civil se prolongase encarnizadamente durante tres años. Apenas encontramos entre los divisionarios españoles signos de adhesión al régimen hitleriano; y, al contrario, enseguida descubrimos la infinita repugnancia que les provoca el trato vejatorio que los conquistadores germanos dispensan a los pueblos sometidos. El divisionario español, por temperamento y por credo, se rebela contra el antisemitismo nazi; y, en su avance a pie hasta el frente confraterniza primero con los polacos (con quienes comparte una misma fe) y después con los rusos, en quienes descubre rasgos de carácter muy semejantes a los españoles. Tales muestras de humanidad fueron reprobadas repetidamente por el mando alemán, al que horrorizaban la indisciplina y el desaseo de las tropas españolas; pero que, llegada la hora del combate, hubo de reconocer que nuestros divisionarios se batían con un denuedo insuperable, como quedó probado en repetidas ocasiones.
En febrero de 1943, con el frente ya rectificado y las tropas alemanas en franco retroceso, la División Azul hubo de hacer frente a un enemigo infinitamente superior que pugnaba por arrebatar el control de la línea férrea que conducía a la ciudad de Leningrado. En la batalla de Krasny Bor (la más cruenta librada por los divisionarios, y tal vez la más cruenta librada por tropas españolas en todo el siglo XX, con excepción de la batalla del Ebro) murieron más de dos mil españoles; y varios centenares cayeron en manos del Ejército Rojo, inciando así un calvario que se prolongaría durante más de diez años por los pavorosos campos de prisioneros estalinistas. De aquella aventura en los límites de la resistencia humana rindió cuenta un director de este periódico, Torcuato Luca de Tena, en un libro magistral y emocionante, Embajador en el infierno, donde narra las penurias soportadas por aquellos héroes, comandados por el capitán Palacios, que a su regreso a España sería condecorado con la Laureada. Invito a las tres o cuatro lectoras que todavía me soportan a leer este libro grandioso, que acaba de ser reeditado por Homolegens: es una forma humilde de honrar a aquellos compatriotas generosos e inolvidables, orgullo de cualquier español bien nacido.
