Very nice Greg. Definitely not the ordnance tan that you see on later items so I would tend to agree that they were probably painted in North Africa (looks to be a nice pink camo to me) before being souvenired.

Definately not ordanance tan as you say MarK and almost a perfect match for the brushpainted gas can you see in the background . It feels almost like a sand finish to the smoother parts with a very flat finish as if the sun has bared down on them for long periods of time.

I was asked if I could show anothe pic of this stunner.
1940 Carl Halfar with Pioneer soutache.
This is a beautiful cap and it I'm tending to start thinking of it as my favourite.

            Hey Mark,

Congratulations, a super cap, no question.
This will fit in nicely with your other caps.

            Thanks for sharing.

            Cheers

I would suggest that the most scarce of all Heer tropical tall boots are 2nd patterns which were only produced for a period of months before replacement by the 3rd pattern. They are also most rarely seen in period photographs. The 1st pattern, although numerous in production, were worn for the entire period of the German presence in North Africa and the Mediteranean. They are also very difficult to find these days.

Personally, I prefer 1st pattern boots due to the fact that they were worn from the start.

Great Halfar Pionier cap, a rare waffenfarbe and wonderful battle-worn appearance.

As for my statement on the boots; for many years of looking in the past I seemed to mostly come across 1st and 2nd pattern pairs. My view is based solely on my personal experience and not influenced by statistical data.

Of course short boots are near on impossible to find in any condition. I for one would love to find a pair of 1st pattern tropical short boots but really don't think that I will ever see any, let alone have the opportunity to add a pair to the collection.

Agree in all enetirety of this statement. I would prefer 1st and 2nd pattern boots over the 3rd pattern anytime If you can find them.

The tropical boots are out there, just no one wants to give them up easliy.

Nice additions to this thread again everyone.

Love those binoculars, souvenired DAK items are impossible to beat when it comes to collecting.

Agree Ray, 1st pattern are on my 'Wants List', however because you rarely see them for sale you have to grab whats been offered.

Here is another collar tab hacked off a used tunic, which is from a jacket made of material one sees late in the Africa campaign that has a greener hue than the more typical olive:

                              Gentlemen,

here are a couple of recent additions that I won't get hands on until spring but looking forward to getting back. I don't think I'll keep both as there is a pending purchase in the future that I just can't say no to so one of these is probably going to have to go :/ but at least I will get to say I had both once. Its that or cut into the pz gren tunics/visors either way not an easy decision or move a bunch of other stuff to keep both.... decisions decisions. I know these have been shown on the forum before but glad to have them. Matt
