    Horrido!

    Many thanks BfK,
I suspected as much yet the grommit arrangement at the flap had me thinking Zeltbahn. Tents were certainly a necessity in the desert (due to sandstorms and the like) as they were in the mountains. Over the years I have seen dealers and collectors assert that there was a khaki or olive Zeltbahn for tropical use, but I believe these were SA or something similar. Many thanks!

        DAK Tent

DAK Tent, used up until six years ago by the Vet of the 2/3rd Anti-Tank Regiment (Tobruk & El Alamein) on his property when out hunting.

Tent came with its orginal canvas cover.

This is typical of a farmer, souveniring practical things to use. Told me he picked it up from a german paratrooper , so I guessing it's from El Alamein.

I was hoping that you would post that one Mark, a good Africa used example from a veteran. As far as I know soldiers in Africa were issued standard camouflage zeltbahns. I've seen a number of khaki zeltbahns offered for sale over the years as tropical but agree with OSS that these are most likely SA or Hitler Youth.

Just for your interest here is one of my recent additions, a lovely pair of 1940 dated 1st pattern tropical boots in size 29 6 by Bata. Yes, they were the ones on ebay and not a bad price considering how scarce and desirable these are.

They are a match for my other pair of 1st pattern tall boots, also dated 1940 and size 29 6, seen here in the lower photo with the boot collection so far.

I see green Mark, I see green...boots that is. Well done and nice to see them all togeather and see the variations in them. I have to admitt I had a little nibble at them on ebay but was negotiating for another pair of tall boots at the same time.

                    Cheers Mark and Greg.

I also love early green Greg. The reason why I love the really early tropical uniforms and equipment is because they are a great representation of what was worn and used in the early battles of the DAK. There is nothing better to me than the look of the early troops attacking at well known battles such as Tobruk (that Australian interest showing through). The 1st pattern tall boots, early caps and 1st pattern tunics were worn throughout the whole period of the Afrikakorps service in North Africa from the first skirmishes of 1941 to the surrender in 1943.

Both of the following photos are from the outskirts of Tobuk in 1941.

I'm glad that I have had the opportunity to build a reasonable collection of these incredible artificats and have learnt so much over the years from some wonderful collectors and friends.

Agree Mark, you sumed it up exactly how many of us feel about collecting DAK.

The early DAK dated field gear and uniforms are at the top of my wants lists as well and lucky enough to have acquired a few Vet pieces.
Latest edition, a JHS 1941 dated pith helmet, as worn by Afrikakorps troops attacking Tobruk.
