I can't prove that it did but the pink in the paint and the wear to the helmet lead me to believe that it may have been there.

understand,but is the liner dark in color? i ask becose my friend grandfather who has bring one from Afrika,as a Polish soldier has one and the liner is near black in color from use.

Beautiful helmet Larry and the Tunisia vet items are very nice, especially the salty looking cap.
I think that there is a bit of a misconception that 'true' Africa helmets should have well worn liners, heavily darkened from sweat. I don't agree with this because most of the time these guys wore their caps not helmets. They would don helmets for action but when not in the firing line a cap would be the first thing on their heads.

Yep,
She's pure top shelf Larry!
The colour is associated with North Africa, certainly, as it is a match for other known veteran returned LW (& the occasional heer) camouflaged helmet from that area, and not a pigmentation seen (as far as I know) from any other arena...
Regarding the colour of the liner, also agree with Mark. The m40 cap was most certainly the prefered item of headgear, but from period photos the helmet was also very commonly worn on marches, retreat/advance situations, even when a cap would have sufficed.
