A nicely matched pair of 1st pattern tropical boots with personalized reinforcing on the well known weak points of these boots. I was very surprised when I received them to find that they were dated 1940.
Now all that I need to do is find a near mint pair and the early tropical ankel boots so that I can complete some early mannequins.

Well guys im sure some of you know that my cut off SV 287/288 went missing in the mail while I was in Iraq in 09-10 and I have been a bit pissy about it since. But I was rather fortunate to finally find another cut off one and I have to give a shout out to Mario (www.hiscoll.com) for this one. Glad to add it to my SV287/288 collection and my tropical stuff. As many of you know im always looking for SV287/288 stuff as its my real passion in the tropical collecting realm. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. MattAttached Files

Mark,
I fully agree. Just wish that other one I bought would have shown up. That was 600 bucks down the drain (They would have closed the case and paid me 33 euros since it was shipped from Germany... better to leave it on the books instead of that pathetic amount). Thanks US postal system for losing that package when it hit the east coast Course I would have still bought this one as well but its the point of the mater. Matt

I feel for you and know what it's like. I've had a couple of parcels coming to me lost and haven't received a cent for it. As for missing items, I'm still annoyed at the guy who sold the 1941 dated tropical cap by Erich Bergmann that I had already paid for to a collector that I know (and didn't care who he stepped on to get it). What's worse is that he has now sold it to another collector who I also know and knew exactly what happened.

Hi Mark,
Experience has taught me that networking and integrity is everything in this hobby. Folks who engage in poor choices usually tend to regret it as the community has a long memory.
I've experienced something similar 4-5 years ago with a nice rare helmet. So I can fully sympathize with you. Burning bridges in this small community is a mistake for any serious collector.
A very nice cap no doubt, but I would take any of your saltier caps over this one any day.
Cheers,

I forget if I have posted these guys before but if I have please be kind. If not hope you enjoy, its not all of my sets, missing about 6 sets that just didn't fit into the Riker case. It covers the vast majority of pith helmet shield makers and eagle variations. There are the earlier ones, later ones, ones in between, different weights, different materials, different makers marks and so forth and so on. I do enjoy these damn shields.... perhaps a bit too much. Also a nice shot of my bullion AFRIKA cuff (for those like myself who believe in them) Matt

As for the pith helmet shields I have always liked those stupid things and have acquired 1 or 2 over the last 4 or 5 years Matt

Mathluft,
Superb 1940 webbed Y's. Exceptionally hard to find and yours are in very good condition. I know of two sets found here in NZ still attached to their packs. One is my set, given directly by the veteran (still alive, bless him!) who took it and the pack after 'bouncing' a supply column in North Africa, stuffed it full of souvenirs and home it eventually came.
Wonderful to see.
Regards,
