I was told that the tunic and cap came from the DAK German veteran's estate and he used it at reunions etc... He must have glued some kind of "Do Not Touch" sign etc.. to the bill of the cap. I don't believe I am even going to try to remove the residue. It will be left alone. He must have worn the jacket after the war as well. Notice how the pleats or darts were let out in the back, due to his waist size increasing. Grant

Gentlemen,

Just found some colored photos of Panzer Rgt. 5 troops in their black uniforms upon arrival in North Africa. The next page shows enlisted men, nco's and an officer from the regiment wearing their tropical tunics with panzer skulls on their lapels. The em's and non-coms are weraing tr. overseas caps with pink soutache, while the officer wears an M-41 cap with pink soutache.

The source is "Afrikakorps: Rommel's Tropical Army in Original Color", by Bernd Peitz with Gary Wilkins, pp. 17-18 (ISBN: 0-7643-2140-4).

Am searching for the elusive waffenfarbe on field caps.
