So.... what's worse? Early in the war the Administrative Career had a 'V' instead of the snakes-on-a-winged-stick logo. (I have one blue-on-white EM patch.) There was also the Material Administration which used an 'M'. And there were also the Telephone Operator and Telephone Mechanics careers. The mechanic used the device show below - the operator was the same but without the gear wheel. Reportedly there was a Radar Operator career that used horizontal arrows - have never seen anything but a drawing of that one.Comment

Marineartilleriefeldwebel (Coastal Artillery Petty Officer 1st Class). Looks like this strap started out as enlisted and the owner just added the tress. A not uncommon practice, even though by regulation he should have had a metal device.Comment

For a Generalmajor (Brigadier General). As most of you noticed right off, the board has five loops instead of the usual four for a general officer. But before you say, "Well, they certainly never did THAT!" see the post below...Comment

This is a photo taken 12/31/44 of a Generalmajor Thunert. Photo is a bit grainy, but you can clearly see that the number of loops on his shoulder boards is 5.Comment

For a Generalintendant (Brigadier General) of the Truppensonderdienst Offizier des Verwaltungsdienst (TSD) (Special Service Officer, Administrative Branch). This was one of the late-war branch creations.Comment

This board is, of course, one of my favorites. The batons have been on the board forever. There were only 19 GFMs. The baton device is the second pattern one created in September 1940. The center gold braid changed from the usually-found silver in April 1941. In spite of that, most general officer boards found have the silver center braid. My guess is that they just liked the two colors better.Comment
