(Hope your boss doesn't catch you. I'd never look at this site at work - never, that is, if I wasn't the boss and didn't have an office with a door that locks... )
Anyway, Since Jack and Hugh have, at long last, blessed us with the first of the series on the German police, I thought I'd post a few of my police items. It isn't my main collecting area, but (for obvious reasons) it is an area of interest.
I'll post the rarest first - kind of like eating the desert before the main course, but I'm doing it 'cause my friend Dave Cameron really wants this one. I picked it up early in my collecting career and for a long time figured (okay, guessed ) that it was veterinarian, since that was their branch color. I finally leared (from Jack Angolia & Dave) that it is, in fact, TeNo.Attached FilesLast edited by Dave Suter (Sarge); 01-16-2005, 05:02 PM.

For an enlisted member of the Hannover Fire Protection Police.
As is obvious, this is not your 'standard' fire police eagle. First off, where are the eagle's legs & feet? And that is one squatty body. Is it 'good'. Well, I don't know. I have no provenence. It's not a recent Pakistani piece, as I've had it for about 20 years. All of the non-officer fake eagles I've seen have been machine-embroidered. This is hand embroidered. I would also think that a faker would do a much better job on the eagle's body - like adding in the feet. The wreath is certainly nicely done. If that was copied correctly, why the huge variance with the eagle? I've also never seen another one like it. If these were being faked, I'd expect that over 20 years I'd have seen another one. My best guess is that this was done by someone's wife or mother. Remember, such 'homey' skills were a lot more prevelent 60 years ago. So, gun-to-head guess is original - but I wouldn't bet my retirement on it.Attached FilesLast edited by Dave Suter (Sarge); 01-19-2005, 09:28 PM.
