    This is of course possible, but not allowed, in any mounted unit the welfare and care of the horse comes at the first place before anything else.

          These Italian blankets were issued in large numbers to German troops and often seen in photos. This one is marked for German use.

              always seems a soft spot in many collector's world for...blankets. the last one italian with star. are these legit ww2? i thought some were similar but post war prod. what was the significance of the star? v non star italian blanket? also, were the red army also issued with blankets, and if so were these put into service by heer troops too?

                    Thanks for that info on the mark.
                    Early war Germans and many other armies thru time have also carried their blankets in a blanket roll , Russian style.
                    On the Italian blankets,,,,,I do not know the truth on the star versions vs the ones without stars. Most dont seem to have them.

                      And just to mix it up a bit, here are a couple of examples of original Wehrmacht sleeping bags.
                      The first one here has been discussed on the forum before I believe and belongs to me. I have searched all over it and found no markings at all.
                      The buttons are original to the bag and obviously have never been replaced or resewn (see back side of stitching). Michael

                                Here is another example of a war time sleeping bag which is supposed to be an SS item. I can not verify that either way, but it is made of same material as Kharkov parka etc.
