I've never seen that one before in my life, but no detail of it resembles to WWII "canister-work".

These canisters pop up from time to time on ebay or on flea markets here in germany, mostly very cheap, sometimes descriped as "Bombercrew" "Paratrooper" or "Tankcrew". I don`t think they are ww2.

      Best regards

I've got one of those. I thought it was Luftwaffe, but the fact is it's made of steel not aluminium...Only marks or stamps are some letters on the back steel handle: 'D' on one side and 'D', 'F' and a 'T' on the other side, not as a makers code but in different positions, mess up. Painted some kind of 'feldgrau' with large white crosses on the sides and ' Trinkwasser 5l' on the back.

                OK, not german WW2.
As i said, i often saw them the last years, i had 2 of them in my hands about 3 or 4 month ago on a local fleamarket, but nothing makes me think that is ww2, do you?

Last Year I saw some of them in a huge Swiss Army Lot. When I say huge I mean an old Steel Factory Hall 100 Meters long, filled up to 10 meters high.
they had about 50 of them in a crate, but the price was to high for me to sell them surplus.

You ever heard that a white cross indicates drinking water? - Or is this a "swiss-canister", too?

C'mon Patrick !!! you know as well as I that this is a very famous picture of the Swiss guards in Vatican city (on a sunny day of course)
A lot of swiss crosses here ......

                              sorry... couldn't resist

Now on a serious note.... Mathieu has also one in his museum in Baugnez, and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't put something post war in there......
(and yes, I am aware of the fact that there are wrong items in a lot of musea around the world)
