Hello, the quarter bakelite seems good to be after war. The quarter aluminum was repainted in Feldgrau. It is well up has this canteen), found so in a barn.

                    Fixing prestoff

                    Hi
I'll try this in this forum
I scored a fantastic canteen on EBAY i was only bidder, not many pictures but
it looked interesting took a chance. It came today and was excited to explore this new jewel. right off it was late war sack cloth cover YES!!
The straps were/are very very dry so i took it easy to try and unbuckle........SNAP!
Sheet!!! i thought i was almost there to get it off and gently proceeded...SNAP!!
SHEET!!! Well the strap broke in two places. But to my surprise the cup
MM44 the red bottle STAMPED 1945!!!!
Now everything is mint but for the dry broken strap.
What is the best way to fix it and soften the rest of the straps?
PLEASE help, i rarely get this lucky on a something this great, also it does look unissued.

The other canteen I picked up at the MN show. Too bad a mouse had its way with the cover in one spot.
