Do you want to set a date limit....ex nothing later than....say 40?

        1...2...3...GO!!!!!
I suggest to set limit on 1939. In 1940 Germans started to use steel parts, like carbine hooks, and poor quality, pig skin, straps. Here are my early, military canteens, dated: 1932, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1937, 1938, 1938, 1939, 1940.

I have just a question, are you sure that the canteens oulined in red in the picture were used only by political or paramilitary units?I'm sure that these were also used by Wehrmacht, it's possible to see in many period photos, what do you think about it?

Hello I have some questions on the black canteen which I supposeis the HJ/DJ. Is it black or dark blue? any marking? I would really like to see it in details, thanks Zeller

Yes, I have seen them on pictures of regular WH soldiers. I think that these were made for RAD. RAD members very often filled the ranks of Wehrmacht with their equipment and uniforms. Outlined canteens are not RZM marked but in regular way like standard canteen. Canteen in black cover is marked HRE 34 but this is probably because of pre RZM era.

Here it goes. All black. Unmarked, except HRE34 on bottle's neck.
