Perhaps he really wasn't that interested in selling it just yet. It's interesting, it's unique, it brought people to his table and generated conversations and "got his name out there." When asked what the price was he threw out $18,000 figuring no one would pay that but if they did it would be a lot easier to let it go.

YEs, brought people to his table, only problem, he wasn't there!
He is a member of the forum, wonder if he will ever chime it?

It did have some interesting animal chew holes in the sleeves, would this fall under the "salty" category, possibly the SS officer got into a little tuff with his German Shepherd.

Exactly. Who knows how this guy arrived at this figure.
Ok we can be very liberal to an extent when arguing non precious metal/ stone antiques. They don't have a tracked value like gold or silver. We can only look at current sales. And that's sales that is not utter nonsense advertised selling prices which then sit for years gathering dust on pc screens.
Maybe his terms of reference were a 2 min check on the ruptured duck where you can currently grab yourself a part restored m40 tunic for a bargain 35k! I mean even if this is on consignment you'd surely have laughed down the phone and said no at that price as they'd be making you look an ass by advertising it for so much money. One Muppet with money doesn't dictate a market. Look at auctions. Just because two people are bidding an item up doesn't make it representative globally of the true retail value.
I personally haven't bought anything from the states in years due to the phenomenal prices. Ok the likes of herr weitze can be eye watering at times but the prices on US sites - be they either web or FB - are often pure nuts. And that's no dig at our American brethren but it's true.
As someone very perceptively said below, these are effectively private touring and internet museums and imho absolutely counter productive to keeping the hobby alive.

Ummm, OK Mr. UK. Does Ulric of England ring a bell with you??

I take it you have never visited his site have you? He adds a whole new dimension to the idea of completely unrealistic and unreasonable pricing (and that ****'s in British £, not US $).
