Like many other badges that were authorized late in the war, we might never find a picture of one or find one on a tunic - cloth wound badges, the higher levels of the small unit combat wards of the KM etc. So it is up to each collector to determine what he is comfortable with.

To be honest I believe the majority of the collector community believes these were issued and the only debate is which types are pre45.

I start to ask myself what is wrong with the Collectors World......there you post the Soldbuch from a very very well known Sniper..what comes....pages are glued....then you post the original Documents where this award was put in use...what comes....ohhh nooo this document considered as not authentic.... There is just one problem...i do live in the Country where a few Snipers who survived the War where living after the war, and i had the pleasure to talk to 2 of them in Person. Both had the luck to survive the hell and still own there Soldbuch and Awards as well. One was Hetzenauer who is well known other one was Herman Josef Eisner, he is not known at all, and from him i had Soldbuch Badge handwritten Award Doc from his commanding Officer rest of his Awards all Documents Picturealbum and some smaller items. Hetzenauer i visit 2 Times, Eisner a lot more because he was close by and died in 2002. And from both i got there storys first hand so what more proof beside the Picture of this idiot Badge can there be? It was a well known fact that they all got there badge but did all to now wear it because they where scared to death what will happens to them when they would be captured.....that is why it is so rare to see the pictures, and that is the only reason. Anyway i will try my best to find this Film to put here a picture and then this should be done. I will look if i can found the Pictures from the Badges from Eisner if not i will ask the Friend with how i traded that he send me a few......

Well when that picture is not proof enough for everyone then what it is? Something better i will not be able to provide from my movie, that is a fact.

There are many proofs supporting the existence of this badge.
Including the american pamphlet for soldiers, the articles on Unif.Mark., from Army and Navy regulations, from period propaganda, and so on...

Of course, a screenshot of the original wartime footage will be de definitive, unquestionable proof that will silence all the naysayers that consider that portrait not completely trustable.

There was, as I recall, another tunic found with the sniper patch but the buyer removed it to see if the color below the patch was darker than the surrounding material. The opinions were inconclusive and then the debate moved to whether to sew the patch back on.

The debate over the above picture (thanks for posting since I am working off my phone) was that it could not be ascertained if the picture was photo shopped or not due to all of the “Sniper 44” words over the picture.

                          Very interesting!!!

I guess one of the reasons there are hardly any photograps with this badge is because these only came very late war, when the Germans were only retreating. Not enough time as in the early war years to make photograps everywhere for photo albums and souvenirs to send home. It was more important to stay alive I guess so late in the war.

And this is the good thing on a Forum, special on this one. For every branch there is someone who have some material to show and that is the best Source you can find on the Planet. Only some People should try to listen a bit more to that People who try to share there Sources or Knowledge and not from start say impossible and in every Picture see something added or faked.....i had to learn my lessons as well, i could fill a Book with all my mistakes i have done in this Hobby over the years but one thing i learn it is important to listen

Thanks for sharing the Pictures, the Tunic is absolute a Masterpiece and Himmlers Newspaper as well more then enough Proof for the Awards being given out....film will follow asap.

Getting back to the OP's sniper badge, it does not look like the "collector-community" accepted example of a pre-45 piece.
