Thanks for the info! This is very interesting!

Have you heard of the story of 10 unissued covers turning up at a munich flea market like 15 or 20 years ago? They were sold by an old lady for next to nothing, she had said that she had a lot more but nobody bothered to get contact details.

Maybe that is the treasure that you found?

    Best regards

    Ben

How could it not? I originally thought there were 13 finished discovered, didnt realize the number exceeded 100, 13 is a relatively easy number to keep track of photographically. 100+ and the unfinished much less so. What I fear will happen one day is when people get much better at making them (there are now MANY more real examples to copy) the new generations will be sold as "they belonged to the horde" story.
Of course each item has to be authenticated on its own merits, however such a large number cropping up and the availability to copy from cant help make things better, price or otherwise. On the contrary, there are hundreds ..maybe thousands of original unissued SS dot camo out there but the fakes are still recognizable, so it may just be misplaced worry...at least the fakes or the dot are ..to me..very easy to spot..and Im sure, same must be for the covers to those that know them inside out. I do know good dot camo in unissued condition has taken a big hit value wise.

        Hello Scott,

Yes at first there was 13, which I sold. Later when the building was being cleaned out the rest were found, which in turn I purchased them all.

You know the Waffen SS Helmet Cover is one of the most reproduced camouflage pieces of equipment to be sold as an original or for re-enacting. Like others have said many Allied soldiers threw away the helmet cover to see the SS Helmet underneath and took that home. Allied soldiers took home the camouflage smocks/44 dot feldbluse and used them for hunting or it just looked cool to have.

I have sold and traded a good amount of these Unissued Waffen SS Helmet Covers already. What the customer is getting is a 100% Original Waffen SS Helmet Cover and they WILL NEVER have to worry if it could be a fake! Too many people are getting burned with fakes. We see the posts on the this forum all the time! I have priced them accordingly and you can see that other SS Helmet Covers on CG are going for 8, 9, 10 thousand dollars! The only Waffen SS Helmet Covers that I have priced higher is for the size 66/68 Helmet shells, which I received only a handful and I am not in a hurry to sell them.

I have taken photographs of most of the Waffen SS Helmet Covers so far and plan on finishing the rest soon. I take about 30 photos per SS Helmet Cover to capture all the details, so it takes time. So if someone is not sure they can contact me I will go through the photos to see if it was one of mine. I am trying to have some control over them.

I have tried to sell some to dealers, like Bill Shea, but they blew me off and wanted nothing to do with these Waffen SS Helmet Covers! Why I do not know???

Does it affect the pricing that so many are out there? But these are FOR SURE 100% Original and once these are all sold they are gone! The customer is getting is a 100% Original Waffen SS Helmet Cover and they WILL NEVER have to worry! Sorry I do not send out COA's! Then it is back to other Waffen SS Helmet Covers that will be posted on this forum "is it fake or is it real?"

        Regards,
        Drew

Hello Drew, please don't think I doubt in any way how you received the covers, and what your doing re the photos is a great idea.. i was merely commenting on prices and speculating re these being used to copy, but that's a given, every original SS cloth item is a tool to use for copying so I think I was clear my point about that was misguided and wrong. I was just under the impression 13 finished had been found, not 100 plus..as with everything in this hobby, one must be careful..great your going to such lengths to catalog them!

First of all, I have to say congratulations to your find! Really remarkable!
For the covers? Have you really sold ALL of the first batch you´ve got?
For the pricing of the 2nd batch: I think these helmet covers (2nd model, mint/unissued/unfinished with this dinstinctive coulors and materials) will decrease drastically in prices. Now, that so many are known, imo this will become the same like with the ross44 and bla44 G43 pouches-10 years ago they costed 800$+ but since the batch surfaced from the ukranian(?) stock, their price dropped to 100-200$.
Helmet covers are a sought after item for sure but I think that it will be hard for you to sell the majority of these covers for a good price since the collectors market is not that strong growing which means there aren´t that many new people comming into the hobby of collecting SS helmet covers or camo stuff anymore that you can sell 100s of them easily.

The diffrence is that ther ONLY 100 + of those orginala unfinished/finshed helmet covers show up while there were thousands of those G43 pouches that surface few year ago. So those helmet covers IMO will be gone quite fast if only price will be right and i'm sure of that.

I remember when G43 pouches were scarce.and very pricey..that sure has changed..but..nice to be able to own several of them and not spend a ton!

I think these covers will all find good homes and will be well sought after down the road..they are unique and found in still relatively small quantity. Now..if 2000 of them pop up..thats a different story, I think the odds are against it.

I do not think price will Change. 100 pieces are not so much in the market. I do not collect call and helmets and my taste do not change if prices will remain so high (I prefer a new tunic than 1 cover or 1 helmet). Congratsfor the stunning score, of course!

I have sold 2 Unfinished Waffen SS Helmet Covers to a member here and on ebay. Should I start a new thread with photos of the 2 that I sold? I am not selling anymore Unfinished SS Helmet Covers.

                              Dear Gents ,
I own only one cover ( oakleaf A) that was found in the Ardennes.(for sure)
I paid for it $1600 twenty five years ago . That was already much .

I was never ready to pay $10k ( as by CG) for a planetree one without sure source
and to have later the bad discover like the " italian fake gate".

I like all the ones found now but would expect a better price due to the quantity found
( as by the G 43 pouches). $4000 would be a minimum and fair price ( for a finished one)

                              just my two cents

The diffrence is in number ; there was only a bit over 100 pieces of those covers ( most unfinished ) while G43 ammo pouches were in thousands ( I wouldn't be suprised if number was with 2 digits at the begining of the number ).
