Here's a clear and big shot of mine for comparison. I also see nothing at all wrong with the one Ed posted at the start of this thread.Last edited by Matthew138; 08-22-2004, 04:35 AM.

The ones shown in posts 1 39 40 42 and 45 and 52 are the very same as the fakes I used to sell.
The ones in the large group all look different. They look like not so good copies.
The ones in posts 48 and 49 are not the same as mine. I think these are the US Delta copies, which were different from the fakes Georges made.
Georges fakes also had the lines on the back like in post 49, but the black material was not bumpy like the Delta copies.
Many people had sent me messages to buy my tabs. I am sorry but I have now decided I cannot sell them to anyone as I do not want people to then sell tham as genuine.
I hope you understand.
Albert.

Albert,
I have sent you a PM, and while i understand you do not want these items being sold as original and as you have sold hundreds if not thousands in the past (as fakes) as i have said in the PM to you by not letting them be examined is a disservice to the collecting community.
So here is a solution to that problem
If you are so worried send me a full set but slash each tab on the backing material like this / both sides of the emblem top to bottom, that would solve the problem would it not? That way I can examine them post the pictures here and make available to others on other forums the pictures of these French fakes and there is no chance of them being sold on as original.
if you do not want to slash them you could use a permanent marker pen and run it across the embroidered emblem again this would render the patch un-sellable as an original
Now that to me is a reasonable solution is it not
cheers,
Gary

Albert .....
Albert .... You have contributed alot to this forum and from what you are saying some of those patches shown that are believed to be original, aren't ...? That you have a box full collar patch insignia which is exactly the same as those displayed that are believed to be original, that you know are fakes ..... ? Well lets see this box of insignia to back up your statement, you said you had no camera so send them to Gary he will post his findings here for us all to see.
Anyone can have a box full of insignia whether its original or not, is another matter. David

As I started collecting in the mid 50's, I have purchased items from US Army veterans since that period. Over the years, I have encountered small to very large lots of insignia that were taken from the stores of the manufacturing facilities at Dachau from US military veterans. Only three years ago, I encountered a coin dealer who had bought a very large lot of insignia from the sister of a deceased veteran. There is no question in the mind of anyone except for possibly new collectors that great quantities of this type of foreign volunteer insignia, along with other SS insignia, was removed and taken home as souvenirs following the liberation of the Dachau camp. At one point, the supplies were eventually exhausted. As dignitaries from numerous governments were stil going to tour the camp, the forces in command put some of the mill workers back to work manufacturing more insignias. I learned this first hand from a former military officer who was at Dachau. Over the years, I have heard of discussions that these great anounbts of insignia never existed. To those who believe that, I say rubbish. We, who pioneered this hobby, know this to be so and chuckle at those who believe other wise.
A good friend of mine purchased 28-yes, 28, SS Totenkopf officer tunics from a vet, who had looted them from the storage areas in Dachau. The days of those kind of treasure troves being discovered are long gone. However, they did occur and I am sure a few are out there still waiting to be discovered.

i guess Bob is right, i think if those copies were ever produced in Europe we would have seen a lot here, but we havent.
so all the tabs are located in the USA, the Delta tabs and the Original Dachau tabs that were looted.
Only few people in europe believe those tabs are original, because they were not really in the collectors circuit here.
But that does not mean that they arent original ones being brought to the US.

Over the many years i have collected i have listened to many old wives tales, i have seen hordes that are real vet buys, forum members have shown pictures of such hordes here and in other forums, there will always be disbelieves for what ever reason yet non of these disbelieves can present any Evidence to support there theory/storys other than the usual "there is a lot around " all they do is add to the paranoia that is ripe in the collecting community nowadays.
Albert you say you have a box of these super fakes so lets bloody well see them then, i think the solution i gave you above would stop them from being sold as fakes, somewhat harsh but should put your mind to rest.
cheers,
Gary
