I agree with John...show the sleeve eagle!

I own a pair of nice repro OberstGruppenfuhrer colar tabs that look just like this. I hadn't noticed missing pips, but the two present look just like the ones on mine. When I first saw the pips I thought they looked slightly too small.

Why even bother with this one when you can get von Reichenau's uniform for only 18000 Euro...

, one of my favorite quotes during the entire time I have been collecting was when a major US dealer asked me which named tunics I was looking for and told me he would see if he could find them for me through his "pickers" in Germany.

The sad thing is the tabs are probably original, but how many named Oberstgruppenfuhrer tunics can a faker churn out? Carefully pick out a couple of pips, however, and there are many more candidates for attribution...

I am not so sure they had pips removed. I have seen tabs that have that appearance. To me it looks like the velvet is more mashed down. Could be natural, the ones I have seen were from being in a frame, the edges get pushed up into the glass on the frame. The other thing I have noticed, screw back tabs have that appearance as well. I have seen several screwback tabs that had the posts cut to be sewn on.

                tunic

Usually "Heavy Weight," items such as this have bullet proof provenance.

IMHO the chances of this being Fegelein's tunic is slight.

I think a lot of people read this thread, that's why I'm very curios if the tunic will be sold, and if yes, for how much.

I imagine it will be, but yes it will be interesting to see what the price ends up being.

I see items "sold" by this auction house for prices that are many times more than what these same items are offered for on the E-Stand and dealer sites every day. If indeed these items are changing hands at these prices, it seems the buyers are not part of the militaria collecting community, as we know it.

Chris, I think there is a whole strata of collectors out there who wouldn't soil their hands by going on a common forum such as this. I console myself with the thought that a huge bank account does not equal knowledge, and there's probably more knowledge on this forum from guys for whom an EKI is a major purchase than for some collectors who can't be bothered to do the homework themselves and trust in a dealer or auction house to convince themselves that just because there is a massive price tag and a well known dealer/auction associated with a piece it has to be legit.

Sometimes i think these insane high prices on this auction house are pure fantasy, created by the auctionhouses themself and most items stays unsold. Ofcource it says "sold" but it problaby goes back to the shelf until the next fantastic auction.

Most of the items at HH are sold on-site at the auction dates. While the prices realized are high, there's nothing fantasy about their sales.

You will find all levels of collectors there. From the eccentric british lord to the normal WAF member. People with deep pockets, and those with holes in their pocket.

How collectors dare to bid on these high-end items based on the few online pics alone are beyond me.

Perhaps someone who is actually interested in buying the tunic might want to contact Hermann and ask for the provenance.

Since it is out of my price range, I would think it is none of my business.

Well, sort of back. I'm not collecting anymore because of a bout of unemployment for me and the little wife. We worked at the same place and both got laid off. My friend and mentor, Willi Schumacher, bought my budding Wehrmacht collection for a very charitible price, which enabled us to survive and save our house. But I'm not collecting anymore. I thought I would occasionally check in and comment on a thing here or there.

A few years ago, another dealer had a pair of SS-Obergruppenfuhrer collar tabs up for sale on his website for some $6,000 (I think). They were pretty good but very high end reproductions. You REALLY almost need a pair of originals to put side-by-side and compare. It's easy to look at a few details and declare them good or bad.

As far as WHO is collecting... a story from Willi... there was a dealer who sold uniforms on eBay and had three Waffen-SS tunics up for bid. He saw that somebody was bidding on them and emailed him and informed him that the tunics, in his opinion, were no good. Turns out the bidder was the professional baseball pitcher for the Boston Redsox, (I forgot his name --- famous pitcher). Kelly Hicks also contacted him and told him the tunics were dubious at best. He found out who Kelly was and asked if he had any SS helmets for sale. Kelly had a nice double decal helmet for $3400. This pitcher told Kelly that he could get them cheaper on eBay. He ended up winning the 3 Waffen-SS tunics for $13,000. So we have investors buying this stuff up too. Who do you think constantly starts NEW threads on metal cap insignia and want a Yes, it's good - no, it's bad answer (quickly).
