Don't you think, you should have special equipment over there.Have visited the castle several times, and walked indeed on the hill. You need to search deep deep down inside the hill.Just one question;the castle was set afire in the late days of the war.But rebuild after a while.Don't you think that it is strange that people didn't find something in those days.

I personaly think that the rings were taken by an special U.S team, maybe those who blew Himmler's safe.Or hidden by Heinz Macher and his demolition force some where in Germany.

Nevertheless I would volunteerly join any search and rescue team

Hey Eric,,I found a panzerfaust too,,always leave them alone! Even if there is no head on them,,,there is a trigger charge that is very dangerous inside! My buddy pulled a p38 out that was in a box,,,he oiled it and it functions!

Good God,,,10 of us at an ss castle with metal detektors and bier,,,if you threw naked women in there,,it would be my vision of heaven!

THANKS ROBIN!!! I might just leave home and never return!

Here is a good site where you can see how wooded the area around the castle is and there appears to be a farm field too.

So you just go there, beep=beep with the machines and find a chest of rings?? Wrong idea! You must go there, all dressed all in white. March directly towards the crypt. This must be exactly at 5 in the motning. From 5 to 7:30 you must walk clockwise around the crypt, one after another, and sing old Germanic songs, prays to the ancient Gods. After that, one of the team must go to the small guard tower and stay there, as a honor guard. Another one must stay directly under the swastika in the crypt, receiving signals form the ancient gods and retransmitting them to the rest of the team. Another one must stay by the cars,to guard the beer in the trunk!! The rest may go detecting And if you manage to find the rings before the arrival of the cops or the psychiatric ambulance - be sure to intend one for me, don't I deserve one, for my precious advices?

                          Disgusted

I am apalled by this. I have visited Wewelsburg twice over the few years, first at age 18 in 1997 and again this spring. Both visits, like Mr. Lumsden and others have said, were paramont in my time in Germany. The idea of excavating around the most important Waffen-SS monument that hasnt been desecrated is disgusting. To dig up the Rings of the dead Waffen-SS officers for personal greed makes me sick! Let their honor lie in the earth that Heinz Macher and the men under his command put there. Heinz Macher, being one of the finest "Pionere der Waffen-SS" made damn sure well that they wouldnt be found. I hope that all the collectors on this site dont buy grave dug erkennungsmarke or other items. The Eastern People (Poles, Ukrainians, Belorussians, Latvians, Estonians, Lituanians, etc.) Have even created websites selling dug items. Let those things lie in the earth!

Even if the Current German Government dug them up, they would be destroyed or vandalized by Antifa filth. The blew up the memorial to the 1.SS Panzerkorps earlier this year. I will post a thread to the article for you all to read. I have visited numerous Memorials which have been splashed with red paint, desecrated and damaged. It makes my blood boil.

I think that the buried rings of the Dead SS men creates more of a worthwile legend that will sound through time much stronger than them being dug up to fill collections.

                          Thats my opinion.

Oberjunker,,,do you really think a bunch of ameteur detectorist would find something that is probably so far down that we would never even come within a millimeter of it. After all these years iam sure others have tried. I have no reason to gravedig here in Germany there are enough stadtwalds where german soldiers buried thier belongings to fill a lifetime of searching, plus I have respect for the German dead,my grandfather is one of them.Iam sure the grounds of the forest around the castle are full of items. Why let persay an ss beltbuckle continue to rust in the ground when it can be restored and kept in a nice collection. As on gravedug items, I feel better about detector finds being that these are abandoned items. Why do metal detectorists always get accused of grave robbery??I detect with 2 other guys who got me into the hobby and the procedures and practices are with upmost respect to the enviornment , there is NEVER a reason to graverob here in Germany I always suspect that most stuff outside of germany sold in the USA are eastern european grave finds. Its a shame that such a hobby with so many benefits is so blindly condemned, the irony of it is is that I have never met another detectorist who has ever found human remains. I actually want to go to the grounds surrounding the castle not to find the rings(it just kinds of gives it a campfire kitschy feel) Id like to turn up as usual some old ammo and some pistols and tour the castle with some forum members and have some beers. As usual I fill the little holes i make in the ground and never leave any garbage. Detecting is legal in Germany when looking for ww2 stuff,,the most you get from the polizei is looks of disbelief when you tell them what you are looking for! Iam not intending on bulldozing the castle down, some minor detecting is something I would say IMHO has probably been going on there for 30 years. And again iam not going to go in the castle courtyard to do this, Iam planning to go in the foresty area surrounding the castle.

                                Cheers,
