      Hi,

i'm reposting the first two pictures i provided on post #34 :

      1) here is the current Google Earth map of the location.
Task Force Mayes is coming from Poteau on the left side, and was stopped by the Kampfgruppe Hansen units in the road to Recht (no visible, on the right).
The few houses in the south of the road are not existing anymore.

      2) Now the full map of the Task Force Mayes vehicles after (partial) destruction.
Please check the circles with letters for the location of the various Elimar shots. Courtesy of "Ardennes 1944" by Jean-Paul Pallud (the guy that identified the Poteau fight), Heimdal.

      See You

Timo, I've immensely enjoyed your research (esp. on FB with Jaime) and am looking forward to your book when it arrives.

Just a note on the man carrying the M1- he is wearing the helmet cover spring side out to my eyes. The details that would reveal the autumn side are all missing.

My pleasure. Do note that it certainly is not Elimar Schneider (eventhough he identified himself). Schneider was not at the "ambush scene" on December 18, 1944, was never in the SS-PzAA1, was never an SS-Rottenführer and was certainly never awarded the Nahkampfspange. Wrong place, wrong unit, wrong rank and wrong awards! Our unidentified SS-Rottenführer was pictured near Born the previous day on the back of an Sd.Kfz. 234/1 together with other members of the Fahrradzug of the Stabskompanie, SS-PzAA1...

Thanks! Since most photos of members of the Fahrradzug (both in SS gear and in Luftwaffe gear) were taken while they moved towards the "ambush site" before they reached the destroyed American vehicles and Hansen's grenadiers - it seems evident that the these cyclists from Knittel's Stabskompanie found their assortment of American weapons and gear earlier on. My estimated guess is that their American equipment originated from the above mentioned American supply dump near Honsfeld.

BTW, I moved my Knittel page to MeWe (the Facebook page will not be updated anymore)

            Hi,

yes sorry i copied and pasted the original post, we all agree now that this is not Elimar at all... Not only was the guy a revisionnist after the war, but he was also a Walter Mitty for telling everyone that he was someone he couldn't be (rank, unit, location, etc).

            See You
