I apologize for humouring this man. Please accept my apologies. The coat is without question,A-SS wartime photos of men other than high leaders are very far between, especially in grey,Im sure there are photos of generals with green collared, and officers, ita a moot point.
But next he will have another outrageuos unfounded request.Photo or not any collector could see in hand ,or on here this items merits, unfortunately the thread went downhill, and I fell with it.Fortunately the coat did not.

.Thanks for all kind words from members here.Im easily aggravated, and unforunately fell into this mans trap,I humbly apologize if Ive wasted anyones time.

      Wewelsburg,
I want to apologize to you for asking too many questions. I also want to say that your coat is great and the insignia is super! If you or anyone should happen to run across a period photo of a coat like yours in wear during the period, it would help to further our understanding of SS great coats. I learned a lot from your thread.

I agree it is a very special and nice coat. I think we have all learned a lot from this thread and look forward to finding more photos of the variations of greatcoat patterns for Allgemeine-SS, SS-VT, SS-TV and Waffen-SS.

            overcoat

L-R, field grey overcoat, earth grey overcoat iin wear , both with allgemeine shoulderboards? this overcoat was worn with a variety of insignia and back belt types thru the 12 year period of the Reich , this photo is about 1938. The field grey or the earth brown or even the earth grey pattern with the same color collar and back with two outside buttons is the strict SS pattern But photos suggest all style and colors where worn by all the different units of the SS in all the years .

It would appear the coat on left is an army coat, exact same color as mine,if its 1938,the typical SS style with collar didnt appear yet.Is that fair too say?As for A-SS boards, hard to tell, but Tk in 38 wore the normal boards with no waffenfarbe yet correct?Or?Guy on right seems to have a-SS boards.

Good image Jim, thanks for posting it.
Here is a picture from December 1939 of Hans Dauser wearing a grey overcoat with dark collar and double shoulderboards. As he was on the staff of the RFSS they must be Allgemeine-SS boards.

                    The Photo

This is the one that clinches it for me.
Wilhelm Jordan, Staff Officer of "Wewelsburg" Not a "great coat", but the tunic and green collar says it all, and there are the A-SS boards.

Great image Peter and it also proves that these Alg.SS officers were definately seeking that pure military appearance wearing closed neck armed forces style field-gray tunics with dark green collar and even as Wewelsberg pointed out with subdued combat style buttons. Himmler hated this but these field-gray dressed Algemeine SS officers often chose uniforms that mimicked their Waffen SS counter-parts, as Wewelsburg's Fulda-Werra greatcoat proves, garments cut in Armed Forces style (not Algemeine SS style)

Himmler ordered the RuSHA to establish the Lebensborn network of maternity homes and this period image shows an SS officer (a medical doctor from RuSHA) attached to the Lebensborn project. Of course he is wearing a Military style greatcoat just like Wewelsburg's WITH a dark green collar AND again subdued green military buttons for that ultimate Armed Forces look which was so fashionable (and against Himmler's orders). Note his old fighters sleeve chevron!

                          Old fighter and young fighter.

By the way: this pic was taken at the Lebensborn-Heim "Harz" in Wernigerode.

The building is not only still in evidence but very well preserved in it´s original condition and structure of it´s rooms up to today!

                            Peter,

in the same book from which you took the pic of Jordan ought to be another shot in front of the SS-guardhouse (Wachgebäude) depicting the Jordan couple together with the Frank couple - both wearing these coats if I am not mistaken.

Peter, what kind of belt should an SS lab coat have on the back?
