      Michael;

Is that a cap eagle or a sleeve eagle?
      Best regards,

      Tony

Hello MGN thank,s for posting the new pic,s

Looking at the back I would say: a good one
Looking at the front and see how the stitching is done of the feather,s very loose not to thight I would also say a good one

But looking between his leg,s I myself didn,t saw this construction before
you also stated that this one was foulded together
maybe that is why he has a round head

I hope Gary of Tony or some other one,s can give an opion on this one

I myself can,t give a clear answer on this one

                John,
The front is curved head but the back is straight as an arrow,
This is an odd looking eagle, only thing I know about this one its not a textbook example, but it came from the vets family up in Connecticut, US.

Because we haven't seen this example we cant dismiss it as a reproduction,
Hmm this turns out to be a very intersting thread

"On the other forum I posted once some scans of an sleeve eagle on a Latvian great coat which was copied after this one. Perhaps I am wrong and will this be a fake, but I believe it's a good one, with the humble experience I have though. "

I have asked mgn to do a couple of thing for me and no doubt he will post the results.

I would though have liked to see a good flat bed scan of the item so maybe in time when mgn gets a scanner :-),
                    cheers,
                    Gary

a better detail shot, unfortunately i have no photo's of the back, as you can see this eagle does not have a woven black area around the eagle, it is woven in white thread directly onto the welt
                      cheers,
                      Gary

I throw this up as an observation and perhaps for comment from those in the know.Looking at this eagle (which I find myself not liking) look at the black spots on the neck itself...now look at the black spots on the droopy-eyed TK discussed last week (which I had an example of years ago and which I never quite believed in) I see a pattern forming.I've never seen one of these eagles before, which in itself means nothing, but this spotty weave feature swings my opinion firmly against it.Stubborn as I can be,I remain firmly open to further education.

                        Kind regards,

                        Ian Hulley

Thanks for posting those pictures Gary! Yes John, I also think the eagle of MGN is a fine original. Isn't the eagle of MGN the same as the one Mr. Beaver posted in the same thread concerning the Latvian great coat Gary?

                            All the best,

                            Cees
