Sorry for the game playing guys but I really wanted to see if this was just another bull**** blog where people go to spew their self-proclaimed bull**** knowledge. Many of you DO know your stuff and that is very impressive.

Sorry for the dupe guys but the best way to see if something or someone is true blue, sucker punch em and see if they see it coming. You did. Good job.

You are full of $#!+, you tried to pull a fast one and got caught!

P.S. none of us have boots tall enough for the kind of BS you just dumped

Historically speaking the only time U.S. GIs came into contact with the Totenkopf Division was at the end of the war when the division surrendered to the Americans, who then turned them over to the Soviets. So historically-speaking there shouldn't ever have been any Totenkopf Division members in the Western Allies' POW Camps. And at the end of the war, I don't believe the Allies were shipping German POWs back to the States. I think most of those POWs in the States were there from places like Tunisia, Italy and maybe the beginning of the Normandy Campaign through December 1944. After that the Allies built (if you can call putting up masive walls of barbed wire out in open fields building) POW cages along the Rhine River. So I think this story is just another 'sales gimmick'. Always believe the artifact. If it's real, then the story could be icing on the cake, but if the artifact is a fake, what good is the story?

Outside of the town I grew up in, Michelfeld Opfz. there was a very large Lager where they held specifically SS troops. I have heard of DAK and Kriegsmarine PWs being kept and sent both to Canada and the US as well as England. I even have a few items from my current location specifically related to DAK who were kept in the Southern states. Never SS. Many W-SS ended up in Scotland PW camps. Kurt Meyer internment in Canada was related to the war crimes trial.

I have to agree with the others and as always adhere to the slogan 'buy the item, not the story'. Either way thanks for posting as the other components all seem legit and salty.

We are moving and I got it out of the storage bag just to see it. I took some pics just to share with the room, not to have my integrity questioned by someone I dont even know.

As for the story, I just included what was told to me when I bought it many years ago. I am sure you are right.

As for the tunic. it spent time in Texas in the physical hands of an expert in militaria. The authenticity of the tunic and the SS insignia all checked out.

I do appreciate peoples various comments. Thank you

                    Care to comment Peter ?

Once again you've been shown to approve of faked up crap and stand shoulder to shoulder and defend people who lie and fabricate items, remember the lab coat ? THAT is weak.

                    Ian.

Sure, I'll be glad to comment. No where in the thread did anyone come up with a valid reason for this tunic being faked prior to the presentation of evidence. For others to have insider information regarding replaced insignia only to bring that out later in the thread does little to support their claims that the piece was not original during initial posting. As a matter of fact, I find it hard to believe that anyone could have truely proven this piece bad without the evidence that appeared. Sorry that I don't fall in line with other opinions such as those posted in this thread. I think on my own and evaluate an item for what it says to me. Now it goes without saying that my opinion may have been different seeing the piece in hand, but from what I saw in the photos, I could not easily fault this piece. On a side note, I am often amased by those who have a hidden gift to detect replaced insignia. I am not sure they are always correct. Perhaps a few may remember the once popular general rule that all German thread has a left hand twist?? I won't mention the name of the thought leader that came up with that.

I am NOT saying YOU had insider info. There was insider info available to others it seems. Sorry if that was not made clear, but I think it was. "Others".

Well now that we have all WASTED four pages of an unnecessary thread, perhaps we can now move on to important items. However, I resent being "Tested" and then jumped on for "apparently calling somebody's integrity into question" when indeed, their integrity was in question. Be assured mmurray306 that I shall remember your moniker and if you ever 'seriously' need assistance with something, that I shall not bother providing you with my insight. It is people like you pulling shinanigans like this that have pushed many of the old guard away from these forums... valuable experience and knowledge have been lost because of behavior like you have demonstrated on this thread.

                              Bob

And as an added note: there were Waffen-SS POWs in the States. There is one buried in the military cemetery at Fort George G. Meade in Maryland, along with other German and Italian POWs, many of which died and were buried in 1946-47. Also a Kriegsmarine U-Boat Knight's Cross winner who was 'killed while trying to escape' Fort Hunt, a special interrogation camp on the Virginia side of the Potomac River, near Mount Vernon. He committed 'suicide by guard' because he was afraid he'd end up giving critical information.

Thanks for your comments on the forum concerning my SS tunic. Tough bunch of skeptics on here. I understand there is alot of crap out there but this is not one of them. If the guy who commented on the rust on the sleeve eagle, looked at the two lower buttons he would see where the rust must of come from. My always concern is about some peoples comments are just comments. If they can 100% prove that this didnt exist then I would believe the so called "experts". Fact of the matter they cant.

Anyway appreciate the comments. Happy Thanksgiving. Matt
