    Coat

I find it hard to believe that they would make a special "Doctor's" patch that looked just like a Sports Emblem. I believe the coats in that exceptional photograph are just using SS sports emblems. So.....you have a tummy ache!!Perhaps these health care specialists in this photo can assist with your malady......

Of course, seller's of pieces like this always seem to prefer to associate their offering(s) with the Dachau KL Prisoner Hospital (where all the "nastiness" took place), but (not surpisingly) conveniently don't seem to mention that the town of Dachau itself also had an SS Hospital (check for yourself and see), along with the "standard" Dachau KL SS Medical Facility (i.e. Hospital) for SS members only which was distinctly separate from the Dachau KL Prisoners (only) Hospital.

So, you have (at least) three distinct "Dachau" Hospitals to choose from.

At any rate, I'm sure that it's new owner will convince himself (one way or another) that the item in question came from his prefered Hospital regardless (as usual) of any type of substantiated facts or provenance associated with the actual originality / authenticity of this specific piece....

*** That is indeed a superb photo Robert, but from which "Dachau" Hospital ???

For sure there was no special patch. The sports patch worked well and was used as Robert's photo proves out.

          Coat

As for the coat in question - The person considering purchase should remember that, even if the tag IS original, it may not be original to the coat. One exotic tag + old European veterinary lab coat + SS Sports Emblem = Extremely desirable and incredibly rare artifact. I'm just sayin'........

Your logic applies to 95% of all SS uniforms as well. This coat is no exception.

                Double Bingo.

*** With a little tweeking of "sgstandards" example, combined with Peter Manzie's statement, the exact same (sadly) applies to my preferred collecting area, Wehrpasses / Soldbuchs (and to basically any collecting theme...).

no arguing with the fact that the interior label is an "exotic tag." That alone is interesting enough without the sports patch affixed. But, the creep factor is high in this coat!

Good man Robert!!, great photo! I've seen at least 2 more..

There is a rather famous one and the doctor is wearing round glasses/bald,,,,,and I believe [if I remember correctly] a shot by a Lebensborn [sp?] building..

Well the real kicker is the interior name tag, "Joey Mengele", whoever that is ...?

                            Peter-
Your sense of humor is as black as mine. Years ago, a SS doctor's smock was bought at a garage sale in an older suburb of Chicago. The length was that of a tunic. It also had the same patch. It had the owner's name, who was a doctor assigned to Matthausen.
Without solid provenance, I would be skeptical for the reasons cited in prior posts.

Neet find but very macabre. If this was a coat use in the death camp hospitals what a great addition to the Holocaust Museum in DC.

Dachau was not a death camp.
