I asked a simple question and never did get am answer until I posed the photos. But I did get a lot of smart A** replies. By that time I had found out it was a Generals cap.
I've been holding my tongue for three days, So don't try and lay the blame on some one else for me speaking out.
This is not the Tony Barto Forum of a few years ago!

You guys have a nice day

      DavidR,

I think you are being a bit to harsh with your assesment of this thread and the awesome feedback you received from some top notch experts. I think between BenVK and Nick (NTZ) you can pretty much assume that they are 99% on the money, the 1% left to hands-on-inspection. But trust me, you had posted some great images which tell all that needs to be told. You should feel fortunate to get such feedback and education, I certainly am. I can imagine it hurts to find out that something that you thought was going to be "bagging the elephant" turned out to be a "lemon". But in all honesty, what did you expect, to stumble upon an SS Generals visor hat these days by accident especialy for someone who does not even collect SS, is highly unlikely. The probability is just above winning the New York Lotto, possible but not likely. You should not voice anger at individuals who took time and voiced their expert opinion for your benefit and gave more than just a one word reply, but actualy gave us all a very interesting thread to learn from. I have been collecting TR items for over 20 years and a member here for about a year and a half, and I learn something new every day. I love reading responses from both BenVK and Nick on headgear, even if it brings with it a bit of fun sarcasm. We are all kids enjoying our toys here and have a bit of fun. But do not delude yourself, there is a great deal to be learned here, in more ways than one. My advise is befriend those with more knoweldge and learn from them, even if it means accepting the hard truth of having been cheated by someone selling you junk! Just my humble opinion. Take it for what it is worth.

      Cheers,
      Dave.

        My Cat

My Cat sends you apologies. I posted three pics of legit SS Visors. Do you think I liked doing this work for you for free? Do you think I just stumbled across those pics? So you don't want to pay me for my work and when I am right you want to complain about it and I could have been nicer when I was arguing this hat with an Bozo who was trying to alibi it? I argued hard to have this Hat called bogus from the get go, so thanks for thanking me for trying so hard to save you money. You think I never lost money is this Hobby? How do you think I learned ?? Just trying to save you from yourself. next time you post anything I will not comment. No sweat. Collect junk and enjoy !!

Billbert related "I would like to see the cap mounted on a headstand to bring out what it truely is/was shaped like..." That might be fun & enlightening. What say you David?

After all, this one (image swiped from Marshals Baton) doesn't seen to have the correct overhang on the sides & eagle looks a bit too big as the Dr. pointed out on yours. That said, I think this cap has a chance at being period manufacture. Perhaps the overhang issue may just have something to do with the size of the cap wearer's head.

Rick give it up. The overhangs and peak are just one of many red flags. The under the sweatband shot was the most telling so far. It spoke volumes. You are right about it have a chance of being a period cap. The problem is chances are it was a Heer visor.

I was just tipped off to this thread--this hat isn't even fairly debatable, and there isn't anything I can say that hasn't been said already.

Great Theory, so like, if you got a small head you don't get peak and overhang? Makes sense to me, NOT

Where on Earth do you come up with this stuff?

And get that "Luft Hat" out of my SS Forum !

Ya Rick has a hard time being coherent with his thoughts. Man I got to meet this guy one day. He may have smoked a bit too much pot in the day.
