And that's going to be the problem because you'll need to lift it to have a dig around inside the cap to be totaly sure.

Any signs of a maker mark on the celluloid diamond?

There are no impressions or any signs of a makers mark on the diamond.
I will get some photos of the band and under but it will be later today,I'm going to be out for the next 6-8 hours.

        Hat

The grime on the front portion of the sweat band seems artificial. The lining in that area is also inconsistant with all the grime. Not a good sign.

          SImple

That is not an SS General's Visor.

I think I would want some additional photos before I accept "seems inconsistent" as anything more than a passing (yet valid to a degree) observation. No offense Peter. Could be the guy liked riding in an open car where road grime collected on his sweaty forehead. Could be anything.

It's a bit early to lower the boom on this one I think. Rick C.

Peter I like it when we can agree. I would not get too excited on this one yet.

I too, would be interested in what observations our three forum colleagues see (aside from the hack job repair & the odd, over dirty, front of the sweatband) that makes this cap bad. RC

No one said the cap was bad (yet). If we can get some better pics we can be a bit more precise. The wear patterns, materials, lining and piping are certainly not giving me any warm and fuzzy feelings. How many SS generals’ caps have you seen in trikot? Real ones that is. Would I swear it was bad? Not yet but it certainly has enough warning signs. More pics please.

                          Pasteboard

Well looking at it from the front an alarming amount of material seems to be missing form the peak and sides, my guess would be a Frankenstein. Let's see the SB up and have a look at the pasteboard.

Also as the Dr. pointed out the cap lacks a peak and overhangs. Also not good signs. The cap band also seems to lack any type of wear yet every other aspect of the cap does. On all the well-worn SS officers I have handled the velvet seems to wear pretty easy as in bare and/or thin spots showing the weave of the band. This one despite heavy wear shown no sign of that. Is this conclusive? No but one can certainly not give it a thumb up from the photos shown either. Lets get under that band and see the money shot!

That's what I thought when I first saw the straight on shot as well.
                              I agree with the Dr.

Well why not, let's look at some real SS General's Visors. The quality is unmistakable. Pic borrowed from WAF Member Sturmbannfuehrer.
