Here is another with unquestionable provenance. Look at all the "real"cap bands. They lack that cheap prom dress velvet look. I see a trend on these.

Why not ask the guy to post photos of his cap reflecting the same angle of photography as the ones your comparing it to? Looking 'down' on a cap (that's been beat to ****) & comparing it to a nice cap that probably came out of someone's closet at the end of the war - shot from 'below', is no viable comparison. Angles of photography are hugely important in making a statement; just ask Leni Rosenthal.

I know it's a waste of time to talk of 'lighting', etc. when comparing photos and making "expert" determinations on velvet. The decision, has clearly been made. That said, I've seen some photos compared, some bland statements, but little more. "Seems to"... seems to be enough to trash this cap. "Great work" everyone.

If I owned it, I'd follow it up with a hands on from a reputable dealer or visor expert. Opinions are just that. If it is potentially real, it would be worth significant money. The owner could ask Nick or Stonemint to take a look. I would pursue it, and see where it leads.

The owner asked for opinions and got them. I see no reason for attitude when opinions are asked. It's all part of the learning process, but on the other hand is an initial determination of originality, not the definitive answer.

Don’t bother listening to Rick (Phoenixpwb ). The guy knows nothing of caps and contributes nothing. He stands up for every questionable cap since he got burned on his Generals. Always an excuse but no substance. Come on Rick tell us what you see that you like? The cap has never been deemed bad, just questionable. So Rick how many “real” SS generals have you handled for a reference point? My guess is none. Add something constructive regarding the cap or don’t reply. Maybe you can post your generals for us. I will be more than glad to go into in-depth discussion on it. Oh I forgot how was my grammar this time?

We got the sweatband up without destroying it .The band is starting to come out so I don't want to mess with it too much. The cap is bent due to the short hat box it's been in for 50 Plus years (it's about 1 in shorter than the top of the peak) It springs back down when you try and push it back up. I guess over time and making it stay in the proper position it would stay.
