                Help

                Gents,

I'm in a bind. I've been a victim of fraud. Please see the link I've posted in the Collector Community Forum: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=678676

Anyone who can assist by providing a letter on some kind of business letterhead, I would be grateful and would be pleased to pay for same.

I think Harm had mentioned something to me, that the writing on the bottom right "P148/Verteidige Deine Heimat/estnich" was not on the original (in his book) and therefore this one is a copy.

Maybe Harm can come and show us (or email me privately) what the writing is on the bottom to clear this one up.

I cross checked the details on the poster with the one in Harm's book.

I then double checked with the Bildesarchiv and they have the same one.

If it's a copy then it would be a perfect copy, except for that writing - yes even down to being printed on period paper.......

However I have been wrong before and have no problem admitting it.

ETA - one thing with posters printed in Germany for foreign countries is often they don't have printers information like they normally would for posters printed for use in Germany. But we'll soon find out hopefully.......

I just wanted to add - this image is not the poster that was for sale - it is the poster in the Bundesarchiv.

"Verteidige Deine Heimat" is the german translation od estonian "Kaitse oma kodumaad". I checked in the book where I saw the first time this poster and the writing is present. I other images of the poster the white part was cut but in the original poster the writing is present like in the one in Bundesarchiv.

                          Thanks Harm.

I was thinking "Hell if the fakes are this good and on period paper then we are in serious trouble now"

My emails to you are bouncing back with the message " Mailbox disabled"
                          are you getting them okay?

Sorry about that. Tony - emailed you Harm's email to me. Looks like a good one then? Really nice image! What do you guys think about the "P148". I have seen those kind of printing numbers on some of the fakes, where they give a number like that. What do you think it means?

Possibly it's "Plakat 148" or in English "Poster 148". I've never seen documents from the SS Head office about the propaganda that was produced, so it's hard to tell how they classified and filed the stuff they produced.

I would be surprised if much has survived as the Allies burnt tons of propaganda after the war and I assume documents from those offices as well).

I'm friends with Bill Gillespie who has one of the world's best collections of German /Third Reich film posters. He has studied the German propaganda area extensively, so I might ask him and see if he knows what the numbers mean.
