I think that the pic's of those men in '47 were taken by the Poles for the trial, both in civilian clothes and left over SS uniforms, for the purpose of identification. At least this is discussed in "Commanders of Auschwitz", Dixon. It shows Liebehenschel in Untersturmfueher rank.
Somehow I thought that the SS men were stripped of their insignia after the war. There is a pic in a book, that fails me now, showing Dietrich, Kraemer, Priess and Peiper at the Dachau trial with no insignia and number placards around their neck.
