What would you call the one in frame #379. Is this skull peculair to the netherlands or whats the real scoop on this skulls story? I have also never seen that style, but appears to have a common type manufacturing similarity to ww2. Are there any photos of them wearing that skull in the photos collectors of photos here may have .Comment

Here is one of my favourites. The typical Danzig jawless skull pattern. One of the older Prussia "jawless mother skulls" worn on Husaren caps, Freikorps etc. Up to now I'm not sure it was still in use on SS caps or not (because I did not find a period photo, that shows the skull in wear on a SS cap).Last edited by Sergeant 08; 04-25-2009, 04:19 AM.Comment

Juoneen, I do not know the origins of the skull in frame # 379, but I like it very much, has a nice worn patina. Could be Husar, I somehow have a feeling it pre-dates Freikorps, but I'm not sure cause I still haven't found a picture of it being worn yet, perhaps someone on the forum has....?
The last one has a simular appearence as some of the Berlin find skulls but it's not from that source, it's a big one by the way, approx. 36 mm wide and 30 mm high measured at the baseline between lower bones.
Has an nice dark patina but shines nicely at the higher spots.

Revi - if you go back on the thread, I've posted a few other examples. ALSO, the WWII era Danzig Police wore a totenkopf on their visor caps, as well as a skull on the side of their helmets.Comment

O.k., thank you very much for the info and the picture also, nice and clean portrait by the way! I have taken a look at the total of skulls in the topic, some resembling mine, nice comparison and a great collection. Missed the picture in frame 379 up until recent, appears to be the same as my nr.3 but no answer there as to what regiment or troop it could have belonged. Amazing all these different styles, nice!
In particular I find the pictures in frame 247 / 248 page 17 very appealing, nice ones. One picture I like very much is this one, with early skull and Wh.off. eagle, worn as such in 1943 by an SS off.

I recently read through this entire thread in an attempt to verify the authenticity of my own example, which I've had about 6 years. The only evident match is the skull posted in #376-378, but the difference in the finish makes it difficult to confirm. The prongs are also soldered higher on my example.
It was mentioned by Mr. Lumsden that there was a specific style that had been reproduced in the 1970's and I was afraid that mine might be one of those. I'm uncertain at this point. It was sold to me by another collector who believed in it's authenticity.
It is not magnetic. The spots appear to be flaking finish. The prongs are most likely brass. Skull is about 1 3/8" wide.
Any feedback or insight would be much appreciated!
