These are not ss skulls, they are army panzer. Come to think of it though, I did have an allgemeine ss em hat with one of these on it. Not regulation for sure.

Those are not the typical shape side prongs for this type panzer skull...Tom

At least, not for original ones, that is...

            Skull

This is the only RZM marked early SS totenkopf you ever see. It was made by Steinhauer & Luuck of Ludenscheid. (You can see the St.&L. logo on the left).
I have 2 exactly like it. There may be other companies, but I've never seen any. This type of marking system was common in the early RZM items.

P.S. I was referring to the SECOND example. The original posted one is surely fake.

                Skull

Looks original to me. Nice piece. Now buy an SS Kepi or nice early style peaked cap, and slap it on there!!

Looks like the fakes in circulation in the UK in the mid>late 70's .... ask Robin ... he may remember ;-)

                    Early SS skull?

                    Hello!

I got this with an unsold badge lot at a coin auction.

Is it original? If so, does it have some sort of model name?

                    Regards, Stefan

                      Skull

I'd say repro. Prongs on early totenkopfs I've seen have always been brass. The angle of the tips of prongs are usually cut into a sharp point or flat, NOT at a half-assed angle. Also the prongs are placed at the bottom on this one, instead of near the middle, like usual. This doesn't even make sense. The finish, especially on the back looks very weird. Who chewed on the corner? This area doesn't match overall condition.

                        Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I can actually feel something on my fingers after I've had it in my hands. Perhaps some talcum or what one use when it was casted?

                        Regards,
                        Stefan

                          Early Totenkopf

This is an early one that is marked, although most aren't. If you look closely, you can make out the letters, St.&L. (Steinhauer & Luuck in Ludenscheid). This is the only manufacturer I've seen on this early insignia, and I've seen a few of them so marked. Probably circa 1934. One of the prongs has been resoldered. The third photo is EXACTLY the same badge and manufacturer, and was placed on a well worn early cap that I got with no insignia.
