To be honest, if I was offered this, I would pass. I've never seen one that "grins" so much and the material looks to have been artificially aged. These are not difficult to find. I would wait for another.

Jawless TK - SS or ...??

            Hi,

I've searched the forum for jawless TKs and I did not notice an exact match to this type - either genuine or repro. Does anyone have any ideas as to whether it is repro/genuine/SS/Heer traditional or something else?

Note that it measures 35.95 x 30.55 mm, so it is NOT a Panzer tab TK - that's about the only thing I do know!

            All help appreciated.

            Regards
            Mike

It's a genuine hussar skull. A pile of these were found by builders in Berlin a couple of years ago.

                    jawless skull

I just got this last night,i am not sure but i think it is a Hussars skull rather than SS. I believe that there was a hoard of these found in Berlin by builders and i am hoping this could be one of them. You can make out sand or soil on the skull itself and the guy i got it from said when he bought it there were another three the same for sale on the same stall.Comments would be appreciated
                    regards gaz

                            Hi

To the best of my knowledge, there was a couple of variants of the jawless skull that the SS wore on their headgear prior to them having their own skull with the more recognisable design.

This was one of those types of early skulls employed. I have a photograph of Himmler somewhere with a visor with this type of skull somwhere

You do not see this one as often as the other type.

I am sure Robin L will be able to correct me and inform me as to how many different designs of jawless skull the early SS used as he has forgotten more than I know about these skulls.

This kind of skull wore different soldiers..... Eiserne Divison, KR5 etc. In my opinion it is a cavalry skull and not a SS skull.
