Both types are original, but they are officially hussar skulls, not SS.

Here is a picture showing some of the others dug up.

You could get these a few months ago for £25 GBP each, when they were plentiful after the find. Now dealers are asking over £100 each for them.

Thanks for the response, that picture looks impressive !

So it is indeed a true story, nice to have it confirmed.

I hope to be able to offer some on the WAF soon.

Hi Mel, I would have loved to have seen that newspaper picture. Can amyone else find it?

I bought one of these for £35 in November 2005.

          Cheers, Ade.

I know that Robin's are for the caps but are the first two both for caps, or is one for the cap and one for the tabs?

They are both for the caps; they are too large for collar tabs

                  Jawless Skull authenticity?

I picked this up with other original items. I feel this to be good, but need further advice. I will be selling it so I need to know the value as well. BTW this is not one of the smaller Panzer skulls.

In such matters as these, I rely on colleagues Lumsden and Hritz. I think your badge is real, actually.

It's an original. Probably Assmann made judging by the pins, and 1944-ish for Kav.Rgt.5.

Worth about $80, although the big dealers charge more for these.

                        Very nice.

Thank you both for your imput. I felt that it was good, but it doesn't hurt to get imput from others. I will be posting it for sale right away.

Part of the Berlin Skull find

                                Hi

I thought I would share my latest acquisition with you. I received 20 of the skulls the other day and when they arrived they were in a ‘as found’ condition. After a little cleaning, they came up really well

I think that a couple of the skulls are an early variant of the SS skull that could be found on Kepi’s in the late 1920’s, but they are generally referred to as Hussar skulls I do believe. Whatever they are, I thought that lovers of Totenkopf would appreciate them as they are great examples of the transition of the design.

The second variant, I know is clearly cap badge but it looks more like a Panzer skull and so would welcome any opinions, or period photographs in use.

I also wonder how many skulls were actually found in the Berlin haul?

                                Many thanks

                                Raymond
