I am quite frankly shocked that anyone with any knowledge of TR militaria would smear Martin's well earned reputation.

I'm not sure where these ridiculous "average prices" are coming from sir; but definitely not from the same planet I live in. I believe the prices in the aforementioned websites are quite fair and match the current market demand.

I would suggest you inform yourself better of the current market value of SS militaria - and perhaps cease dealing with your current source of militaria - as you are most likely being taken to the cleaners by a very shrewd source.

    Regards,

    Asper

      Hi Bob,

I'm still keen to understand if the four helmet covers are duds in your opinion - or whether it is the Demelhuber tunic that you believe glistens falsely.

      cheers

Hello Bob, I hope you are having a very nice weekend, I apologize for dissapointing you and others who stand by the individual who operates the efformentioned website with so many ultra rare SS items, I do not know him, all I did was go through his site. I further apologize for not keeping my mouth closed as you had stated in your comment above. Aside from making a mistake on the cufftitle, I have some significant experience with TR material and have had some wonderful dealings with some legends in this hobby. But now I ask of your opinion and the opinion of all who had commented on my commentis and swear by this seller and his merchandise to comment on this wonderful and rare SS NCO color piped viror hat:
http://www.hannahsreich.co.uk/shop/v...ph=1631&phqu=5 , I good friend of mine and one of the top dealers of SS material had sold a color piped visor about 2 years ago for 20K USD, and it was not an issue of who to sell to, rather, it was, who will be given the opportunity to purchase (this dealer by the way in not Steve Wolfe in case you are wondering). Please let me know if you think this hat is real, and if it is, why is it still available. I would love to hear your opinion and the opinion of all the experts on this thread regarding the authenticity of this visor. There are several other rarities which I would love to inquire about, but I chose this one since It is so rare that one encounters an ORIGINAL color piped NCO SS visor. I thank everyone in advance!

With all due respects, I had asked the opinion of all the members like yourself who had commented earlier. I am not saying this item is fake or real, I am merely asking everyone who posted many reply threads attesting to this dealer and his merchandise.

Well - we have gone from sweeping generalizations to one item of particular interest but still continue to trash the owner of the site. In doing so, we have apparently found out that the majority of items on the site (at least in the eyes of many collectors) are accepted as authentic - at least based on the images. Certainly the camouflage smocks and covers are good - and when Lorenzo speaks on camouflage, one should listen. The example cited in insignia by the initiator of this thread was found out to be a rare and well-priced example. Many other items are in the category of "needs a hands on" but no one has been able to point to a red flag.

And of course there is no statement that this or that specific item is false with reasons why - other than for the unfortunate TK beanie baby - rather it is all so patently obviously fake because a) this shop has a lot of items and b) they are underpriced in the opinion of the poster.

In my opinion, other shops have had similar inventory amd my personal experience, in terms of cost, has been that prices for W-SS do not fit the range cited by the poster. To illustrate, over a period of about 1 year, ending about a year and a half back, I picked up three tunics, two officer and 1 NCO, (you e-mailed me a few weeks back about the NCO one) that were illustrated in the Beaver books - total cost for all three was less than $24,000 US.

I hold no particular brief for the owner of the shop - but it seems to me that unless you can state categorically that this or that is bad because of this reason (and if I were you I would stay away from the insignias), you are being more than a little unfair. And picking on a high end piece that hasn't moved and then playing 20 questions without any substantive input of your own doesn't (again in my opinion) quite cut it. Now if any of a handfull full of people whom I consider to be expert chive in and say the piece in question is wrong, I would certainly accept that (as this piece is not in my field) but I am not sure that I would immediately ascribe it a deliberate and malicious act on the part of the owner - virtually every collector and dealer has made mistakes (I certainly have) including, dare I say it, your legends in the hobby.

                Hello Mike,

Thanks for your input, but would you please render your opinion on the item I had inquired about? I am merely asking for opinion of all the experts on this forum thread. If this hat is real, I think it is a steal, I for one would be most interested in purchasing it. So can you tell me your opinion about it?

                Thanks in advance!

                            Steve,

It is not that I do not like what i am reading. In fact, I am reading nothing either way, bad or good. I merely asked a question about an item from a seller everyone swears by, hoping to perhaps learn something about a great potential source, but received not a single word of input on the item, only some sort of a run-around. Oh well.

                            Thanks In any event.

I simply don't have any insight into W-SS caps - sorry. I can give you firm opinions on camo and, to a far lesser degree, tunics because that is what I am familiar with.

This being said, I was travelling on business - but didn't this site recently have a cavalry piped visor (with a picture of the original owner wearing it) that sold in 5 minutes? Or was this another site...?

If you are interested in the cap (although the arm of service is not generally that attractive), why not buy it and then get an expert assessment on it (and I mean expert - there are few of folks around who know these pieces well and even among them there are often conflicting views). If good, you have your steal; if bad (and you return it in a reasonable amount of time) you get your money back less customs and postage.

                              Mike
