Robin you have answered your own question and remain confused ?. Even after its explained in post #69 people are stll confused. IT'S TWO DIFFERENT RINGS BEING PRESENTED AS THE SAME RING. He wants too know if the ring he knows is a fake,if it has artificial wear, well if he knows it's a fake it must have artificial wear. Should I send it to Don Boyle,It's the same ring photographed differently, (Post #50) ECT GEEEEZZZZZZZZ.

          Hi

I was not convinced at all with the first ring and when I found half and hour I was going to try and help out with some decent images of my near mint 1944 ring. I am really glad that I didn't as I don't want to be party to people making better and better reproductions.

I think your probable honest intent has got lost in all this as it does appear to me that you have been fishing for ways of improving the ring and perception is reality

It is safe to say that within a few years, maybe within a year, some poor sod will be showing off his latest totenkopfring that he has bought for big bucks inscribed with the name 'Koehl', but I am sure that you have thought about that seriously.

All reproductions should be marked as such and may I ask if you have any stamps with an 'R', or any other such marking on the rings so novice collectors will have a fair idea of what they are actually looking at immediately?

It has left a pretty nasty taste in my mouth and now made me seriously think twice about showing any images of rings, or bothering to offer any advice on them in the future.

I am sure there will be other collectors having the same thoughts and that is a real shame.

That is my two cents of grumbling on the whole thing.

          Raymond

Let me say to the slanderers who don't know what they're talking about - Here is the proof that these two photos are of the same ring. The proof is in the original early '30's style ring ITSELF. The Ty-rune insignia is an oval instead of a circle, The other runes shapes are squished as well. This is because when a mold is made of a ring, the copies shrink from to top to bottom, not side to side. The sculptor of the 30's rings did not compensate for this. Notice the 40's rings are not like this. IF WE HAD MADE A MOLD FROM JOSIAS' ORIGINAL RING, THE COPIES WOULD SHOW THIS SAME EFFECT. ANY PROFESSIONAL WHO CASTS RING COPIES WILL VERIFY THIS FACT. The band would also be noticably narrower and the detail not as crisp. And for the know-it-all accusers out there, I just have one question: WHY IN THE HELL WOULD SOMEONE TRYING TO PULL A SCAM, POST PHOTOS OF THEIR WORK IN PROGRESS????????? IT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE. MY BROTHER CARVED THAT GREEN WAX RING WITH HIS OWN HANDS AND POSTED IT EXTENSIVELY ON GDC WHEN HE STARTED THIS PROJECT A FEW YEARS AGO. Reactions from MANY collectors was very positive. So I ask..Where's all the KOEHL reproductions floating around for sale?????? There ARE none - THAT'S where.
Where's all the criticism for G.I. for their repro TKR's? What about Mark Morton?
What about the companies that sell reenectment uniforms and accoutrements?
So none of you buy reenactment items for fun? What if they fall into the hands of unscrupulous dealers? NEITHER JOSIAS OR MYSELF HAVE EVER EVEN SOLD ONE TOTENKOPFRING TO ANYONE......PERIOD. WHO OUT THERE BOUGHT ONE? NO ONE..THAT'S WHO!! WHERE ARE YOU?? POST THE PICS!!! WHERE'S THE EVIDENCE OF EVEN ONE RING SALE?? THERE IS NONE BECAUSE THE RING HASN'T EVEN BEEN MADE YET. When this project was originally posted on GDC, my brother was deluged with requests for one. Same green wax ring, same name, same everything. This is called a free market society. There's nothing illegal nor immoral about making or selling a reproduction of anything as long as it's not misrepresented. Have I sold any rings? NO!! Have I offered any rings for sale NO!! If and when these rings are completed, they WILL BE SOLD AS REPRODUCTIONS. THEY WILL ALL BE THE SAME, EXCEPT FOR SIZE. THEY WILL ALL HAVE THE SAME INSCRIPTION. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE IT ANY CLEARER. To the Stalinists who want to restrict my artistic or entrepreneureal freedom to make such an item, you're a product of your own paranoia. To anyone who suggests I'm dishonest, you better know what you're talking about.

Addendum; The suggestion of a discerning "R" being stamped on such an item was and is still considered. Josias had planned to do that, but many who requested a ring would said they didn't want it. One last thing - NO ONE WAS TRYING TO GLEAN INFORMATION FROM POSTS - YOU'RE JUST NOT AS SMART AS YOU THINK YOU ARE. I joined the forum to have fun, and along the way I made the mistake of sharing something with you. They're both the same ring. The self-appointed guardians of the hobby flat-out got this one wrong. Moral: Don't buy a ring with the name Koehl, and don't accuse someone of dishonesty when you don't know what in the hell you're talking about.

Dear DR. DOLCH - Get your facts straight. Go to the original post "Skull Ring".
The post NEVER originally asked anyone to confirm authenticity!!!!!!!! It was posted to be humorous. A poster said it looked like artificial wear, NOT ME!! Others questioned authenticity. I only asked why they thought so. GO READ THE POST. Your accusations are ridiculous.

240 STEVEK - No, the fork was purchased from TRD a long time ago. Read my post and you will see that I already said that. Have you seen it posted for sale by me? If not, EXACTLY what are you implying? Why, yes, my immense factory facility produces tableware, linen, gravy boats, totenkopfrings, and enough tunics, caps, and accessories to outfit an entire division. We're reproducing Kubelwagens next month, and Tiger tanks the week after that. You don't know me or anything about me, so keep your innuendos to yourself.

Go to the GDC website from about 2 years ago. The same EXACT photos and topic was discussed at length there, without any accusations or hysteria. I joined this website because there are hardly ever any new posts there.
                          Gee, SORRY!!!

Here is a comparison photo of the two rings shown by "sgstandard." Looking at this, I can not believe that these are different photos of the same ring. I see a number of big differences that do not seem to be a result of lighting or camera angle.
