Kevin, I have one in aluminum and one in CupAl. The CupAl one is thicker than the aluminum one. Also, notice that the CupAl eagle has a messed up swastika on the back side, but the aluminum eagle doesn't.
    Both are proper variations.

    Best, Chris

To be clear, the "messed up swastika" is not exclusive to the CupAl eagles; it can be found on aluminum eagles as well. Here is one of mine:

Thanks Chris and Brad. I was curious as I have one that had the messed up Swastika also and was wondering if it was it was the same.

This is certainly the earliest date ('35) I've seen on a "1936" pattern eagle...I'm a fan, though! Although surely it must be '38?

                          No, 35 is correct.

1936 was the official change-over to the second pattern eagle, but for there to be sufficient numbers in supply when that change took effect, contracts for their production had to be let before that.

Ah, very interesting...nice to see the very earliest production of this style of eagle...

I don't think that I have seen a crimped zinc Zimmerman listed yet. The skull does have a lot of "character"....
