    Der Fuhrer Obersturmbannfuhrer Tunic

This Tunic Has Resided In Several Chicago Area Collections Dating Back To The Mid 60's. What Is Amazing Is The Fact That It Was Not Stripped For The Insignia, Which Was A Common Practice In Those Days. The Tunic Shows Heavy Wear And Even Has A Darned Hole. It Appears To Have Been A Field Worn Tunic. Although A Private Purchase Tunic, There Are No Labels Or Name. My Best Guess Based On The Award Loops And The Size And Shape Of The Tunic Is That It At One Time Belonged To Otto Kumm. The Insignia Is Of Prewar Quality And Was Likely Worn When Derr Fuhrer Was A Part Of The S S- V T.

Early Rune Tab. After Looking At This Picture Blown Up, I Noticed There Were A Couple Of Small Lint Balls On the Tab. Sorry!

I have had the opportunity toi see this tunic, over the years. The collar tabs are surely custom made, as is the finest sleeve eagle I have ever seen. Whoever wore this tunic, Kumm or Weidiger, he had exceptional taste in tailoring and insignia. I can recall this tunic from the 1970s, when I had little hope of affording an original Waffen-SS tunic. It really must be seen in person to fully appreciate it's glamour.

In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.

Great tunic Bob. Thanks for sharing it with us. In today's collector world of 'everything has to be textbook' many would have dismissed both the runes tab and the eagle - although both are clearly of the highest quality and have a provenance back to the 70's. Just goes to show you that there was a lot of variation during the NS, and one needs to look beyond the 'textbook' when judging originality.

IN THE 60'S AND 70'S, THE PARTS WERE WORTH MORE THAN AN INTACT TUNIC. AS TODAY, IT ALL CAME DOWN TO MONEY.
