The buckle is an East European reproduction.

Thank you for the information! What do you think about the enlisted men buckles in this thread?

The two at the bottom are original. For the one on the top I would need a larger photo but should also be genuine.

Garry was indeed correct: the 822 production for the year of 1938 (822/38's) was made with three different markings leading to believe 3 different sets of dies. I am not sure the whole set (male and female) was changed each time but it was at least twice. Why? I don't know. But this maker already done so a year ealier (822/37's) with a much smaller production but already made with two different dies.

That skull is a bad fake!

JP, you said that the "822" marked SS EM buckles were made with at least four different set of dies , (including a totally new front side die each time), within the years of 37 and 38, correct?

If this is correct, can you please tell me if each front side die was completely reconstructed from scratch, each time, or were all of the front side dies made from one main master die?
The reason I am asking, is because when comparing each front side,
(somewhat limited with only pictures to use, of course), I can see only very minor, if any differences between any two "822" marked buckles, but I can see many things that are common amongst all of them, and it seems
impossible, as well as impractical, that they would have been totally redone, without using one main template or master die to make each front side die as they were needed, especially since they are all, so close to identical.

Also, can you see any major differences within in the front sides of each "822" buckle variation, or just minor differences?

                    Thanks! Chris

Chris, the pictures that I posted were pictures from a seller. I think the buckles will arrive tomorrow. After the buckles arrived, I will try to answer your questions.

The buckles arrived today! The buckle on the top was a "822/37" and the two others at the bottom "822/38". I compared the items and I did not find major differences within in the front sides of each "822" buckle variation. JPR said, he is not sure the whole set was changed each time and I think the same. A mystery....
