      Hi Jack,

Here is an early variation, it's interesting that the eye is sewn with grey thread.

      Best,
      John

        Hi John,
I think the eagle on my Afrika jacket is a good one.
I have the jacket for quite some time and I have it outof a collection from a friend,so this was far before the fake eagles appeared.
I've no camera at the moment for I've some vacation and I always use the camera from work.
I think it's hand applied because it has some thread sewed through the liner but not all,so it's not machine done...
Maybe some soldiers granny had plenty of time ??

        I like the early eagles.

        Jos.

For some reason, my system is not showing any of the photos after "Sorry, wrong one". But, they must be coming through as John can see them.

                        Hi Ralph,

A book author, that will remain nameless, once told me that eagles like this with rounded beaks were reproductions. They are NOT. Nice one. Here is one cut from a flight blouse.

                        Best,
                        John

Thanks John. I'm on the lookout for a nice one like yours. "Minty" is nice, but nothing beats "what you got"!

Nice eagles guys......... I will post some of my odd HBT and cotton eagles tomorrow. Here are a few of mine. A wool backed eagle on a Luft blue shirt.........have never seen another. Next is a trop eagle on trop tunic. Third is a very odd wool backed eagle with bullion highlights.

Will alos post some more smock eagles on the FJ page.

                                Hi Jos,

Like John, I would like to see the back of your trop eagle. It does look hand applied. The back is the key to all eagles on tunics. No one, and I mean no one, can stitch so perfectly to cover/match the holes on the back. Always the key with smocks....check inside the pocket.

Here is a few more eagles. First is a pre-war early officers flat wire bevo still machine zig-zag sewn to wool. Then a few odd thin cotton blue-gray backed eagles with borders (to protect from falling apart), and one of the same style but in olive. Then are 2 more HBT/cotton gray eagles.

Nice to see some are interested in items as Luft eagles. To me, having expertise in such small details of a subject area show some depth of knowledge and the sign of a truly advanced collector, so saldy lacking with most collectors who have such shallow knowledge.
