Here is an Officer's BEVO breast eagle that has been cut from a tunic, hope it's of interest.

Hi again Jos. I used to have a BEVO repro as well, but like you, I got rid of it. Now I wish I had kept it to show for comparison. The head and neck is at a lower angle on the repro. Will see if I can find an old photo of it later this week.

Thanks, John, that's nice. I've been hunting one of those things! The repros that I've seen are on very thin material. Really not very convincing.

Hi John,
Now I slowly begin to realise howmany jackets,smocks etc has been ruined just to "collect" these eagles !!!
What a waste !!!
If I could turn back time.....
Well,I hope you'll find your "fake" pic,I'll still want to compare it with the real I've seen here.

Hi Jos,

I didn't want to approach it this way but I think I will. Look at Vol.1 of Angolia's Uniforms and Traditions of the Luftwaffe, p. 469. The third eagle from the top IMO is the repro style. I've seen these eagles on repro jump smocks.

The horrible fact of war is that in most cases the smock and tunics these eagles were cut from were done so because the soldier wearing it was dead and the garmet was already ruined by bullets, shrapnel and more....

Here is a green backed for HBT. Have seen green backed eagles on grey tunics and grey backed on green tunics.

Hi Jack, nice early eagle. I've some variations of these I'll post when time permits.

Jos, please shoot a photo of the inside of the tunic showing the stitching of the eagle. Stitching this tight is not unusual, but I'm not sure of the eagle. What makes you think it might be hand stitched?
