No it isn't a joke, what do you surmise the color to be indicative of? Care to entertain a guess?

Could HG officers choose a field grey colour over Luft. blue in tailor made uniform items, to be more in keeping with ground force duties

Maybe. I don't remember seeing another though. I wonder if this is the same piece that was offered by The Collectors Guild as mentioned above?

          Hi Mike,

I remember it because I was interested in it. I went back thru my archives to see if I saved any of our correspondence but didn't find anything. I don't think this is the same tunic but like I said, I don't recall all the details.

          Thank you,
          G

Many years ago, I had a tunic for a Major in the HG Division. While not quite as grey-green as this one, it was very close. The material was a very hard finish gabardine and there was no sign of Army insignia having ever been on it.

I've once seen a original luft visor in grey gabardine ..

I can’t venture a guess; but I certainly would entertain doubts of it being due to the owner making a statement of displeasure due to their being transferred!

                  Interesting tunic.

A shame the name has been cut out. Odd as well. It prevents us from piecing the puzzle together, but might be convenient.

I must admit that I am not too fond of the collar tab application.

Well, I should have it in a day or two and then we'll give it a thorough going over....

                      Mike,

The Waffen-SS certainly had a tunic in this cut. I believe Harper Noehren still has one in this style, with 4 buttons, open collar and 4 patch pleated pockets.

But not with unscalloped pocket flaps if it is the same tunic I am thinking of, for an Unterstrmf. There are other differences in cut as well. I have a photo of Harper's tunic in front of me but would not want to post without his permission....

A curious example! I look forward to additional images and insights.

I really do not remember the pocket flaps, but it is probably the same tunic which Rick Sheffler turned up, in Chicago. Sorry!

Perry, agree with you and Willi, and also consider the application of the breast eagle equally sloppy.
