Great pictures, and an interesting story behind each one. That must have been quite fun to dig at that site. Although probably a bit scary, you must have felt like you had discovered buried treasure with those two bombs you uncovered. So they were both SD-50's, correct?

Hi,

Yes, they were both SD50's. Without digging out my volume of "The Blitz---" I'm pretty sure the earlier dig reached the engine but I don't think there's a mention of the central bomb - maybe recovered at the time - and I've often wondered if the two under the other wing are still there!

Hmmm.... maybe I should grab a shovel, and then a plane to the UK, and we can go look for the two from the other wing.

Your example is very pristine. Is it an unused example? Can you give us any history on where or how it was acquired?

Do you know what the nomenclature Prbzw.L stands for?

It is unused exercise bomb from EOD tarining course collection.
Prbzw.L means that drawing is intended for type of bomb body : preßstahl beziehungsweise L(Rohre)

While we seem to be on the subject of SD-50 bombs, I thought I would show this relic SC-50 tail fin I have. Although they are not SD-50 fins, they have the red stripe that is usually on the SD-50 bombs. Anyone have an idea why this would be?

SD-70 had the same tail fin as SC-50J ausf.A

Wow, you are quite the "book of knowledge" klarkon. Once again you have come through with great information.

So these fins belonged to an SD-70, not an SC-50, that's great. I almost did not buy them since I have other SC50 tails in better shape, but the red stripes peaked my curiosity.
