NSKK at Arnhem

I have also visited Arnhem and the museum where the helmet is that is photographed at the beginning of this thread.

I believe if you read the history of this battle, you'll find that NSKK units were mobiled and brought into the battle area as supply units. If that helmet was found there, as is the one photographed just recently, then I would not be surpised at all. Very nice and authentic helmet! -C

Sorry i dont have pics of NSKK soldiers at Arnhem,
And didn't know that they fought during the battle of market garden. I think they forced everything into battle at that time.
I just know what the seller told me, and know that this helmet is 100% textbook.
I didn't buy it because of the story.

Decals....

I believe you can find original NSKK decals in silver, silver with a orange wash, and silver with a blue wash - at least that's as much as I know. I have never seen the blue one before in person (but have heard they existed) - apparantly these colors meant something on the unit level for ID pruposes.-C

Fake Nskk Decals

I wanted to comment on some of the high end fakes of this decal. There is a very nice properly printed silver fleck fake of the decal that just came out recently (last 12 months). You'll see these exclusively on German and UK vendor sites - even some listed right now as we speak.

I have found it on two German sites, and at least one UK site, and on one US auction site. Be very careful about knowing how to ID this decal.

The fake is very excellent, but has "issues" when it comes to certain aspects of the graphic design elements - at first glance, and when aged, it can really fool someone. These fakes are all the same and not correct compared to the original.

Again - coming from Europe on pre-aged helmets - generally original no or single decal Luftwaffe helmets that are camo'ed in some way, or simply the fake decal aged and applied to a good no decal M40 or M35.-C

Could you PM me the sites where the NSKK helmets are for sale??

I have just bought a NSKK helmet but it have not arrived to me yet.
But that one is the real deal.

The information regarding the particiption of Transport Gruppe Speer units in the area of Operation Market Garden battles makes sense to me. This thread reminded me of my encounter with an 82nd Airborne veteran back in the late 60's who had four of the most well preserved camoflage helmets I have ever encountered. He had picked them up during the battles in Holland. I was able to purchase two of the four from him. The fellow had a natural collector's eye and kept the two best. One of the two I purchased from him was a NSKK with the eagle visable under the camoflage paint. It went to Steve Dukes along with the rest of my helmets when I sold my collection in 1972. I presently have a single decal NSKK M42 and another camoflaged M42 with the eagle visible under the paint. It makes perfect sense that the Transport Gruppe Speer troops were active in the area. Another little known fact is that the Herman Goring Division had a training facility in the area of the 101st Airborne's area of operations. Thanks for reminding me of a time in my collecting experience that was forgotten.

Thanks Bob - I do also agree its interesting about the NSKK at Arnheim.

On the fake NSKK decals, I do believe the one Anders has shown may be a dry transfer type - the wear on the eagle wing seems to indicate the decal is "soft" and therefore a dry transfer.

In any case, its easy to spot a dry transfer. The secret is the fact that the decals are 'soft' and cannot be made to harden the way an original does. Secondly, the lines under a loup are so perfect they are too perfect. This is because they are made with modern technology and the fact is you can't print a dry transfer using the WWII technology.

I've never been scared of the dry transfers - they are easy to spot.-C

Think that decal will fool some collectors.
The NSKK helmets are rare and not so often seen.
This is how a nice decal should look..............
